bob, regarding your rear spacers, what did you want to do?

-i can use 1" stock (1018) and make them shouldered. this would spread the clamp load like your washer idea. they would neck down to about 0.830" to mach the ball shoulder diameter of the spherical.
-i can try your SS

Yep, sorry about that guys, I quoted a heat treated 440 by accident. Thanks for pointing that out Sean.

I got the numbers from a spec sheet at work, didn't notice that the spec listed was the heat treat spec and not the annealed spec.

I do NOT think that 440C is a viable material for this without the Q&T@600F spec.

For the rear upper I think they just need to have at a minimum 7/8" od on the ends where it contacts the A-arm to interface with my slotted adjustment holes and I'm using the stock 12mm camber bolts through them. the load is not terribly high on this joint so they don't need to be torqued as much, probably work fine in aluminum. do you have any larger diameter aluminum stock? Or I can send you some 316 stainless once I get it if you would like to try it as well.

I can get whatever you need, big metal supply just a few miles from me. What I have on hand is 1" 1018 steel and 3/4" 6061. Im pretty sure they stock 7025 t6. You tell me what you want and I'll make it happen. Except maybe the ss

7075 would be Ideal at this location I think. 1" od at the ends is cool not sure if that would require some form of additional machining. straight 7/8" would be fine as well. made for 12mm bolt in my case.

In the event I can't get any 7025 precuts ( not going to buy a 10 ft length), would you rather 6061 or 1018?

i just called and they dont have 7025. i can do 1" 6061 or 1018, or i can order a piece of 7025.

That's because 7025 is a very rare alloy that nobody will stock. 7075 is alot more common, and is what Bob was referring to.

If a metal shop has any 7000 series aluminum, its going to be 7075.

thats what i meant, i dont know why i keep typing 25.

in either case, my metal supply only stocks 6061 rounds and 5052 sheets. i can order some 7075 from speedymetals or onlinemetals or ebay. let me know bob.

When you lay out all the sleeves for all the bushings besides the rear upper it comes out to be a crapload of machining just over 4 feet of center hole drilling. My normal machinist is out this week so I wont get a chance to quote me till next week. I need to do a cost analysis on the washers weather I make them out of bar stock or from 17-4 washers. the 17-4 washers are $3.99 each and it will take 16 of them.

is this your way of saying you want 7075? can you wait until this group buy goes through? if it does im proably going to use 7075 for the production versions.

Got the material today. a test of drilling it with my hand drill and a standard black drill bit found it drills just fine. The cold finished surface seems a bit harder but boring out the end is not too much different than the mild steel bar I have and I can go right through it.

just did a test.

Single urethane bushing in front a-arm freashly greased takes between 3 and 5 lbs of force to get it to rotate on a 7/8" shaft pulling on the shock mout hole with a fish scale.

urethane bushing with oil impregnated bronze sleeve bushings takes zero lbs of force to rotate and there is no measurable slop same radial stiffness.

It takes somewhere between 20 and 60 lbs of force per corner on a urethane bushed car to get the suspension to articulate properly where the springs and shocks can do their job depending on the condition of your bushing lube job and luck. I think I will be drastically reducing that.

im still waiting on quotes from 2 other shops, but i got some good pricing from one of them so far.

@30 pieces they are going to be $25 each, so $50 for a pair. that is for 1018 steel. i will make the spacers myself at $25 for 4. they will 0.830" OD, made from 6061 or 7075, i havnt decided yet. for those with special spacer needs using camber bolts, i will make you what you need from 1018 steel at the same price.

if all 12 of you on the list say go, i will cover the other 6 as im sure i will sell them later to stragglers.

totals come out to
10 people- $95
15 people- $87
i also got a quote for 20 people for shits- $79


i will require full payment up front via paypal. i dont have a time estimate, but it should definitely not be more than a month after the last person has paid. i wont start taking money until at least 10 of you give me the go ahead, in which case we would do the 10 people buy @ $95.

again, international customers will require more for shipping, my best guess is another $20 or so.

if i get any better quotes from the other shops its only going to be a few dollars.
