Because it teaches you how to steal code snippets instead of properly understanding how to control hardware :)

But I'm an ME... We have like maybe 1/4 of a class that uses any sort of coding. :violin:

I can kinda read code and understand it but writing it from scratch is a whole nother story.

Makes sense, a lot of stuff at work is based around creating the education platform for my degree program. We shy away from arduino because it is a step away from hardware and doesn't always teach good coding practice. Same reason our CS programs start with C and then move to python. Python breaks a lot of universal coding practices and teaches a lot of bad habits to newcomers. Don't get me wrong python is awesome, but it shouldn't be your first language.

My whole goal here is cost. An arduino clone is unbeatable for the price.

:crx:

Thats how I learn. "Hey if I steal code from these 3 different projects I can kind of make my shit work." Which turns into eventually re-writing the whole fucking thing from scratch once I figure out how its all supposed to work and find whats shitty in the original, uncommented, code I stole.

aidandj 02-26-2015 04:34 PM

But its still a lot of abstraction. From an educational perspective it leads to bad habits.

I just found some really cheap lithium ion battery charger boards so this will probably have a backup battery now.

I just found a really cheap coffee maker here.. Think you could get it added in also?:rofl::rofl:

This is looking great, I love the scope creep of it.

It's baby's first microcontroller. There's a lot of dumb goofy shit, but it does the job of getting people interested in doing hardware/software projects.

It's basically the Harbor Freight of the microcontroller world: It's sometimes the right tool for the job and it will work in a bind, but you should probably pony up for decent stuff if you don't want to hate life.

Can the coffee pot have trubo kitty and some penii of various aroused states engraved in it?

:giggle:

I can make a rpi turn on a relay, about the extent of my programming knowledge

wimp. I can make an electronic twist grip throttle vary the brightness of an LED on certain Digital pins, or I can make it vary the rate the onboard led blinks. Completely unknown its actually gonna work as the throttle for my scooter, or if the oldskool mag coil and iron rod solenoid is going to like being driven at 490Hz (how else am I supposed to switch a 250A current without spending all the money, rotfl).

are you saying your going to attempt to PWM a starter motor with its solenoid?

No no, a different solenoid. Dont worry. Its got a flyback diode. :fael:

Since GoPro has acquired DashWare, its now free, so I am kind of interested in putting something together that I could use with that and have a bit of fun. Think we could make something work?

aidandj 03-04-2015 12:37 AM

Thats what this is made for.

deezums 03-04-2015 12:45 AM

It will log with TS for stuff like power and economy fields too, right? For us peasants with no VSS

Not really for accurate numbers, but it would be awesome for tuning, or at least I think it would be a good comparison tool.

aidandj 03-04-2015 12:48 AM

Dont know about TS but using shadowdash you can. Just build an ms3 and get vss :)

deezums 03-04-2015 12:54 AM

Kicking myself every day. Newbs, don't buy a DIYPNP because you're intimidated by DB-37. A MS3 is just as easy once you RTFM. True story!

If it works over BT it should work and communicate to BT laptops? This is kinda what I was looking at those modules for in the first place. Cool videos are a bonus.
