Default SuperMiata 2D wing

This production project is in initial stages. The 61" carbon GT-250 Universal wing (doesn't fit Miata) sells for $1300. Our goal is to bring a lower cost and 1/2 lb heavier FRP (carbon core) 64" foil and Miata specific mounts to market for under $1300. Our wing would be 1" below the OEM roofline and overlapping the rear edge of the trunk.

The poll is just for those that might actually buy this $1300 wing. Bumper or Frame Rail mount?

Bumper Mount
This is just an example. The production bumper mount would be slightly broader, black anodized not have the cross brace.

Frame Rail Mount
Pics swiped off other forums. Our mount would be a single CNC'd plate with sections cut out to save weight but this is the general layout idea.

although I like frame mount, I think you would sell more bumper mount, as it doesn't require hacking up trunk lid.

A "no impact to bodywork" mount option would be nice, ala the COT wing mounts.

Cost being equal, frame rail mount is preferred. Assume it would be the stronger mounting point and anybody who is seriously considering this setup will be far beyond occasionally going to the track with their street car.

Emilio: Can you give a quick explanation of the advantages of this wing over the GTC-200 you also offer? I see it as a large premium to run that wing that should be justified somehow.

Strength would be the same either way. Its just a matter of which you would rather cut holes in; trunk or bumper.

The 2D has a better lift/drag ratio and produces far more peak dowforce.

2x on the finish panel, or a license plate mount of some sort.

That sheet metal is no where near stiff enough for the force being put on that lever. You can't compare the GT-250 foil to a COTA foil or a GTC-200 for that matter. Different animals. The GT-250 is designed for 100mph average speed, the COTA for 200mph. That's 4x the force. The GT-250 foil is a much higher downforce design. Tying this into anything other than the frame rails is not something we will entertain.

Folks are just going to have man up and cut into perfectly good body panels for this foil.

You can CAD up some support to mount to the back of the finish panel and triple the costs.

I'm not going to vote because I bought another set of your ugly wheels and won't get this wing for the green car...maybe for my future SM-style purchase, then I'd go "bumper". The other big plus with the bumper mount is the ability to use the wing as a table for sandwiches.

The bumper mount also makes it easier to access the trunk when swapping cool-suit stuff if that can't go in the passenger seat, easier to open the trunk to tweek shocks, or easier to get the AR-15 out in a pit stop.

will this mount be designed by Tenzo-R?

Why couldn't you cut through the finish panel (plastic and sheet metal) and still mount to the frame rail? That's what I thought Crusher had, maybe I'm seeing it wrong.

What does the bumper mount actually attach to then? Just the sheet metal below the plastic bumper?

I mentioned on your facebook page about trying to make it SCCA legal, but I can definitely understand why your focus would be NASA customers.

If you aren't going to try for SCCA legal, I'd vote for the bumper mount. Even on a race car its nice to have trunk access. And you've done such a good job advertising the bumper mount on Crusher already

Super secret 949 heave damper making it "active aero". Brawn F1 borrowed this from Crusher.

Here we see Emilio describing the sandwich eating optimization...

My vote was on the rail mounts... but I'd be all over this too... obviously won't work unless mounting points fabbed on top of wing. What's this style called anyway?

"Swan neck" locally, gooseneck is a trailer connection I guess?

If you want to be really nerdy, the Swan Neck should be place behind the wing element to make the the air on the lower surface really undisturbed. But construction and regulation might prevent that solution (or the advantage is purely theoretical and not worth the added effort).

It should also be 100 ft in the air, but you know...
