32 psi was the happy place on the skidpad. I am assuming that's starting pressure. They did three laps so they're not going to heat up much (I think). Says not much change in skid pad times at lower or higher pressures. And consistent performance across different tire temps.

This all makes me even more eager to get them on track. M@MRLS will be the first time tracking these. I think I will start at 27 cold. It just doesn't get very hot in Monterey in September - usually.

Why? Because you still need to see the same hot pressures as you see in dry. In the wet the tire runs cooler for two reasons - the ambient as well as track temps are cooler and the car isn't being pushed as hard.

 

This is why I don't understand why I have hear of people paying good money for a nitrogen fill with their tires. It's not an expensive gas.

I guess to the average person the best bet is to find somebody local who has a nitrogen tank that isn't in it to rip people off.

Not saying that exactly these will fit your needs perfectly (adapter to your favorite tire inflator etc). But the prices ($300) will give you a hint.
Small bottles are easy to carry, dead silent and fast (compare that to any small compressor).

Hoosier R7/A7 in the 245/40/15 size will be out Sept/Oct. I plan to try em both and see how they compare to the R6/R80/R100 tires I have tried. I keep hearing the A7 is faster than a R80. That's hard to believe but who knows maybe it is a one lap wonder.

 

If the A7 is faster than the R80 then you need to try the R75A which is the A7 compound on the hoosier radial slick carcass.

 

They don't make it anymore in the 245 size. It came out for a short while then disappeared.

 

Only just recently did they start making them this way. Before they were supposedly crap while they were trying something different. They finally caved to auto-x suggestions and just put the A6/7 compound on the slick carcass.

 

So is it the new "S" carcass? ie S75/S80/S100

If so I will give me a try. The R80's are great but even those are a bit dicey out of the gate. The R100's are hell on a track that is not very hot. The 75's would be great if they came on strong out of the gate and lasted 20 mins.

 

WARNING, never use a nitrogen tank without a regulator to fill a tire. That is one sure fire way to kill yourself.

I read an article with back to back track testing the NT01 Vs the Maxxis RC1. The difference was .17 seconds. The tester felt that the Maxxis was easier to drive.

Anyone have experience using Kumho Ecsta's? I got an offer from some guy at the track for 4 new tires for $400 and he's local so I can pick them up and save on shipping/tax etc.


Worth it, or should I just go for something more known like Toyo RRs or find some SM takeoffs?

No that is probably the S700 slick.

They are a reasonable tire, very hard and durable compound but around 2 seconds a lap slower than Hoosier R80s, maybe more.

 

Has there been any data on the new bridgestone potenza re-71r? Will it be available in 15" sizes other than 205?

 

75s are fast for a couple of laps then get greasy, great quali tire if you only want to run 2 fast laps at a time. A couple of guys ran 75s for qualifying at the Runoffs this year. Front row s 3rd row, hard for me to justify the cost.

 

All the research I've done has lead back to this page POTENZA which lists 205/50r15 as the biggest 15" offering.

 

Looks like Hoosier is about to release the A7/R7 in the 245/40/15 size. How do those stack up against the old A6/R6?
