Back in 2009 I was borrowing a friends E30 to drive around for a week or so. Next to the driver seat on the ground he had a long stick. I asked him what it was for. He told me if for whatever reason the car would not start, hit the starter with the stick and then it will start. Sure enough once during the week it was not starting. A few quick taps and it was good to go. I asked him about it when I gave the car back and he was like it has been like that for the past 30k miles and the stick has never let him down.

Putting this on today.

Was almost stranded in the parking lot yesterday, taking no chances.

Old starter wouldn't crank, just a clink noise. Not sure if it was being blocked or what. I put the trans into 1st then 2nd. Waited a min and it slowly came back to life. Battery and alt check out fine.

Mine cost $260 oem new...

I was confused when he told me mitsubishi but meh it works, installed.

Has a high pitch wine, vehicle starts no prob now. SO good, I have to retard the idle timing a few.

It would be nice to have the one with the correct bolt pattern for the 6 speed, because I'm crazy like that.

My main issue was the starter itself. I haven't looked it up, but it engages and pushes out towards the flywheel to catch then crank?

My old one last night would just clink* and not even attempt to crank.

Service advisor kept telling me it was my 17* timing (begi reflash) that was preventing the start. My logic and exp. told me otherwise.... wasn't even attempting to crank. No engagement period.

The issue of 2 cranks, pause, full crank is still there. Guessing what I was told of the odd flywheel position tis true. I have the fm 10lb flywheel.

Thanks Giz0r, that's the one I was looking at buying. I actually dug up that link yesterday and I was going to post in the ramble thread or PM you and ask for some followup, but hey, you beat me to it! Off to Amazon I go.

Lol, its funny because that extra long extension now lives under the seat until I get this sorted out

That sounds like work. Have your read this thread? I'm possibly the laziest human being on the planet.

True, but don't forget the Miata crowd would never settle for anything less.

Seriously though, it does not have to be nice it just has to close correctly. I'm just going to paint it matte black and cut holes in it for vents.
