the 205/40-16 are just way to small.

 

Needs more wider 255 or better. Why dont you run 225's all the way around aside from alil inner fender rubbing on my car it works fine. Understeer is dangerrous give me oversteer any day that is a hell of a lot more predictable.

 

what year is your miata?

 

Different sized tires/wheels equal fail in a Miata.

Can't go wrong with the EcstaXS though.

the biggest tire i have ever run on a miata is 235/45-17 on a 90 i used a baseball bat to fix the rubbing

oohh na miata less rooms which means i should be able to fit 225 in front seeing how the nbs have more room, what size rims you got if there 15 im sol.

i have been using this to find a good size Wheel / tire size calculator / comparer - RIMS-N-TIRES

 

i go by the factory specs man not all tires are measured as truely as wel like 100% of the time but yeah you should be fine worst case scenario you wear a hole in you fender liner in hard high speed cornering nothing serius though. Either as your tires wear down or the hole gets right sized it stops. For instance that site shows me with a 7 inch raod contact across i assure you i end up with more in the neighborhood of 8 inches on my tires.

I love em. I am running the 205 50 15's.

They are awesome at the track. Very linear/controllable breakaway.

It's not ALL about the width, Richie Rich. IIRC the contact patch is 8.3" vs. 8.6"

The 215/45/16 is already large enough (diameter). That's exactly the tire I just picked up. But I dont see a reason to mix-and-match the compounds and widths. It is really worth the extra $175 for the rear tires?


I'd also like to see you fit the 225/45/16s up front, I know we couldn't fit a 225/50/15 on a lowered miata, and the 225/45/16 is the same diameter, 24". I'm worried about my 215/45s fitting...

i dunno scot my tires where only 105 apeice i got em on sale. A wider tire set to the right air pressure will allow more traction period. If i could find light weight 10 inch wide rims afford them and knew i wouldnt twist my frame and tranny to peices i would run 300+'s. Even if it stuck out a few inches.

i dont do a lot of road racing mostly drag racing so i need hook up off the line. the only 225 that will work a bfgoordrich tires and the toyo r1r. im going to stop buy town fair tire and see a friend and have him throw on a toyo r1r to test fit it in the front and back. if they fit front. and back ill do that if they fit only in the back then ill run them in the back and run the 215/45-16 ecsta XS in the front

you mean a nice tire like this BFGoodrich g-Force T/A Drag Radial 2 but yes price is key i can get the toyo r1r in 225/45-16 for 130 buck each

 

Why not: Run same size tires and compounds for the street and track. Get a pair of cheapo 15's or 16s wheels/tires for the strip.

I'm betting staggered tires (especially compounds) will cause crazy handling nightmares. ****, even drags up front also would be a better solution. Atleast then you'll be closer to neutral setup.

Why not run the same size f&r? The aerodynamic drag and unsprung weight difference between the two tire sizes does NOT make enough of a difference to justify running a different size/compound.
