949Racing SuperMiata Tecna Coilover
#141
In my limited understanding of suspension, the shocks need to be valved to match the grip level of the tires, correct? If so, what kind of tires has the testing been done with and what class of tires will be ideal to run with these? I currently run 205/50 RE11's on 15x8 Enkei PF01's, for instance.

This assumes the coilover systems lacks bump travel, which it does not in this case. We're actually including bump travel limiters for those users that run 225/45's on 9's. The tecna are designed around the factory NB hat. We even have our own steel NB mount clone on standby if Mazda discontinues or raises the price on the factory NB mount.

You might need to change your company name to "949 Daily Driver" for people to finally understand everything you sell isn't racecar

You can run whatever tire suits your fancy with these non-race shocks. As mentioned a few times here and elsewhere, yes we tested function and fitment with big tires. That is why we will include travel limiters for them.
We're not recommending any particular wheel/tire combo because there is no goal here. Not being optimized for lap times or grip. Folks just want to lower the car a little, have it ride nice and not cost a lot. Most people that choose tecnas run whatever tire was cheapest on tires-are-us.com that day. Some will have 225 Rival on 9's with giant sway bars. Those cars won't ride as nice as the cars on rim protector specials, but they'll handle better.

All I know is that I don't like the FM Vmaxxs, but I won't buy these if they aren't superior. I don't think running rims and summer tires is so radical that I need XIDA's for my daily 40 mile commute. Nor do I expect these to be worse than the Vmaxxs were on track. Hence my earlier question.

Why can't I have Xida grip and comfort and not spend Xida money?
I just want to be able to run 225's, ride decent, and be able to autoX/play on twisties. $2500 Xida's is a bit pricey for that. If these let me do that I'm in. Not asking for crazy race grip, just good to drive.

I expect these will be better than the Tein Basis.
I am not expecting them to be as good as the Tein Flex.
Hoping they are Tein SA territory at a lower price point, and without the adjustability.
A budget coilover for cars that 90% daily and 10% HPDE.
Any chance on selling some prototype/pre-production units?

Neither of you are the target tecna customer. You're both asking, or stating the requirement that, they work when you hit the track or autocross with tire capable of generating 1.2g grip. They will do that, just not exceptionally well having only 6/4kg springs.
You would both be much happier with Tein Advances with optional 9kg front springs and NB mounts. We offer that kit for about $1100 shipped. 550/350 or 700/400 Xidas are the ideal kit for both of you but I understand not wanting to budget that for coilovers.

Dunno. They will have a higher perfornance level on a car that light.

Ideal track rates for that platform (Exocet) will vary depending on grip produced by the wheel/tire combo, ride height and sway bar combos.

?. Not sure where you came up with the acceptable spring rate range for Xidas. Xidas are perfectly happy with stock 150/100 spring rates.

From the specs you post on your web site regarding the "damping sweep."
