Unsure if this phenomenon would transfer to a ZF equipped miata, but thought I'd mention it.

thanks curly! that would be super helpful.

the NVH, if typical for this swap, is pretty extreme for a street car. I think if I had a do-over I would jump on the 8hp-45/50 train.

i might throw a heavier oil, though i doubt it will help. It has redline d4 ATF now, might try MTL or at least some cheap 90 weight.

@rabid i have the ACT full face organic, sprung clutch disc, heavy PP. BMW e46 6 speed, stock mazdaspeed rear end setup. BP w/ efr6758. Roadster sport motor mounts. Whatever energy suspension trans mount that came with the kpower kit. SM poly diff mounts. Kmiata ppf delete/diff mount.

I’m a little annoyed with kpower/this swap. For the money I’d expect a little more polish and customer service (no, my Miata is not different from every other Miata…) but I’ll reserve that chat for another time.

edit: just swapped in royal purp 75w-90 and the idle chatter improved significantly, even when hot. The off thottle gear whine is also softer, though it got worse as the box got some heat. Shift quality dropped noticeably compared to d4, but it's still acceptable. My car has always had some off throttle whine, wondering if my r&p is sloppy. I'l prob blow it up before I find out.

Interesting. My car is not going to be street driven much so I'll stick with D4. When I get the car back together, I'll post video of the noises.

Did you ever end up tearing your GS6 apart? I think I might have a potential issue with mine but can’t find documentation anywhere regarding the teardown process. Mine’s out of the car and just exhibits a knocking noise from somewhere in the tailshaft of leaned side to side. Really, I just need to get the tailshaft off

I did take this video, but then forgot about this thread. I'll post it here in a minute. To summarize though, it's super loud when my phones sitting on the dyno, but when I try to show my foot, it's less noticable, but it's noisy when clutch up, quiet with clutch down.

So far the transmission has been much better. The noise in 5th gear is minimal and no issues to report.

I took the car on a few short road trips. The transmission sounds like it's going to eat a bearing at certain loads and rpms. It's worst around 50-60mph in 5th. I have to apply more throttle to load up the shafts or shift gears. I don't know what is vibrating so bad in there. At 70-80mph it's actually loaded up enough that it's fine. When things get really hot there is shaft noise in neutral. I thought I had rod knock until I pressed the clutch.
