I've thrown on a few sets of brake pads on a few different vehicles. I know that you have to grease the slider pins. I was helping a friend today do brakes on his Miata and he said you need to grease the brake clips so the pads slide. I've never heard of doing that. It seems like overkill to me. Opinions?

 

This is something I actually do. I used to do it mainly to prevent noise.

 

<p>I don't have the little slider clips, and you can't get new ones for the sport brakes without buying new pads.</p><p>So, I usually put a TON&nbsp;of that stuff in the groove the pads slide on. It definitely at least helps with noise.</p>

 

I usually also add some grease to this area when I do brake service (new pads or lubing the slider pins). Overkill? Maybe, but it takes 2 minutes to do, and a lubed part is one that's less likely to seize or corrode.

 

i wouldn't do that on a track car, it catches on fire. street car, go for it.
