So i have a 1.6 with a flyin miata stage 1 clutch on a stock 1.8 flywheel, which worked great until the end of the break-in period. The car now no longer goes into gear when running, but it is possible to put in gear when not running or in motion, also pushing the clutch pedal in does nothing and the car when coming to a stop will stall. slave and master both have been replaced, twice now and bled. Slave is traveling the full 3/4". transmission is off the car currently and nothing seems to be lose or broken. what are the possible causes?

It is strange that it's happening now, but did you complete their clutch adjustment procedure after installing? Starting at step 17 they mention some situations like this. Best of luck.

Yes originally adjusted the brake pedal as instructed, and it randomly stopped working. i have tried readjusting and cannot get it to effect the clutch.

If you start the car in 1st with the clutch held down, does the car creep forward?
If the car is running and you stab the clutch quickly, does it let you put it into gear?


Have you confirmed that EVERY joint in the hydraulics is bone dry and not weeping fluid? (ie: leaking pressure)
Have you confirmed that the Master/slave are 100% free of air?



Also, you mention a 1.6 with a 1.8 flywheel fitted.
I presume you used a 1.8 clutch as well yeah?

car creeps forward with clutch pushed in, and in gear, originally when the issue started you could push in the clutch and it would act as it should and not creep forward, started it to move it so i could take it to my buddies shop and now creeps forward. i found no leaks in any of the hydraulic lines. clutch is for a 1.8 yes, i actually found it is pretty annoying to find a 1.6 clutch that can handle boost, so i went 1.8. I have to seen for myself but supposedly they found nothing broken with the clutch disc or pressure plate.

There's possibly either a failure of the throwout/diaphragm arms interface or the clutch disc was slipping right before it was parked and has bonded itself to the PP and/or flywheel face.

I've seen a slipped/smoked clutch bond to a flywheel recently at MATG with identical symptoms.

Really hot brake pads can bond to rotors similarly, which is why we are advised not to use the e-brake until well cooled off at track days.

Beyond what has already been suggested, Have you inspected stud the clutch fork clips into? With trans out we would think it easy to find. If not looking specifically it is an easy miss.

Interested if you can find this out because I occasionally experience similar symptoms with my FM stage 2 happy meal - sometimes it just doesn't want to go into gear, more often from a stop but occasionally while moving. The throwout bearing also squeaks a bit when completely disengaged, but I haven't had the heart to pull the trans to look at it.

I've also had my clutch bond itself to the flywheel (in a different car - a subaru which I drove through water that was way too deep). I was able to break it loose by starting the car in 5th gear.

I am having the exact same problem with my FM stage 2. My clutch hydraulics are good, so I suspect it is the pilot bearing. Your squeak may be caused by not having grease on the slave pushrod where
it pushes on the transmission fork assembly.
