NEVER buy an unproven product unless you are willing to take the money it would cost, drop that money on the ground and set it on fire. After reading the guy's responses not even sure if I would take a set of these for free.

I didn't feel the need to "try them out". I'm all for this guy making a ton of cash but trying to market and sell something without any research, any time on the street or track, no shock dyno (I hate to be that guy), and with generally no clue about suspension tuning...the cards are stacked against him. This is why companies like 949 and ABSURDflow will continue to crush anyone and everyone. These examples are not only deft professionals with knowledge and skill, but they are the face of American Entrepreneurialism. Both companies are rooted in America, have perfect customer service and product performance records, and integrity.

It's really tough for me to play nice.

We are beating this guy up pretty bad, but if he has a clue, and he's ordering good valves and shim-stacks stacks it might not be a bad deal. However, I don't take chances with that kind of money...and I have a set of Tein twin-Flex that are about to go on my daily and make that my auto-x car.

Yeah, I read that right before I came back over and read this. I was worried about you for a minute; thought you might have actually gone soft on us.
Shoulda known better.

Couldn't agree more. I have done a significant(for me) amount of business with 949 over the last year and a half and their service is second to none. At the $1,000 price point this guy's product better perform. So far I see an unproven damper, unproven valving, unproven coils being hocked by an unproven company with not a single bit of solid evidence to back up performance. I really don't think I would spend the 2 hours to swap them out just to try them if I was given a set. Even if you were able to try them for free why would you? Have you seen the new Hoosier prices for this year? No way I'm eating up a set of tires that cost more than these shocks just to "see how they work"

Well, I don't care to piss in the face of someone's livlihood/profession, or actually cause any real harm to anyone who doesn't deserve it for taking themselves too seriously. This guy would probably love to get his shocks on one of the Miata e-celebrity cars running Miata Challenge.

It's highly likely that with the right knowledge he could select decent options on his Taiwanese shocks, it won't have the craftsmanship, durability, or performance of the shocks on my car or what 949 sells from an American / Dutch camp of engineers and hot-shoes running as a spec shock for half-a-million dollar cars, but it's a start and option for poor people.

Screw tire prices, I have a White Whale of a car and I'm not throwing that aware nor the points.

Look at what Trackspeed has done as a small company starting the Miata market. They have a handful of parts created out of necessity, tested extensively, and then sold. Savington and Crashnscar won't sell anything until it's tested. DGR is taking the Helen Keller approach, maybe he did his homework.

I'm just not willing to spend close to $2000 for the suspension of my daily driver, at least not at the moment.

Ah, I thought this was for the track car. If I only had one car, I'd have 700/400 Xida CS on it, lol.

"DGR is a new company on the market and figured I'd pass on my thoughts...I have a miata, but they serve almost everyone; especially Subaru. It's nice to see a good review, so I figured as a vendor (not of DGR though, there are a few) I'd pass this on...

I bought a set for my Miata, shipped super quick. They were on my door step before I could even ask for tracking info. I went with the softer "Street" set up (8k/ 5k springs)."

He really is a special one. What a douche bag. With said revelation I don't see DGR lasting too long.

Will it make a even a n00b drive better? I bought BC Racing coilovers before I knew anything about anything, but so far I found them to be ok. I am looking to move away from these though.

Are the Xida S with no helper spring better than Xida CS with helper spring and top hat? $220 difference iirc.

JayL, if the DGR setup is a copy of the BCR then it is ok on a DD. I really have no complaints. I also have nothing but stock Bilsteins to compare them to though.

ps - DGR shocks and I have nothing in common other than using "D and G" in our names.

I'd suggest XCS, NB mounts with dual springs as bang for the buck. By Q3/11 we should have our own spherical bearing billet extended mounts for the Xida at around ~$300/set (half the current cost). They'll also be compatible with any OEM replacement Miata damper. You could upgrade to the mounts later and save about $300 over the current cost.

Before my sway bar mount broke, I described turning the car as a motor function, suddenly the car does what you're thinking rather than wrestling the car to turn and load up. There's also less "loading up" when you get the right shocks and right suspension bushings.

When I bolted fancy shocks on my car suddenly I was able to shape the car through the corner with the steering wheel, rather than wrangle the car to turn and use the gas pedal to adjust the handling characteristics of the car. There is no more "cranking the steering wheel", it's very delicate in comparison to "the old days".

I also like it when i run ECR because people complain about bumps in several places that I don't feel since switching to "real shocks." I also dropped almost 3-seconds at Hallett, a 1.8-mile 10-turn track the first day I had them.

Those Xidas are no joke, and still a notch better than what I have.

I'm up for people making money but this guy is a jackass. At least when he was working at chaser, his aero products couldnt kill you if they didnt work/failed. I know one of his big fall-backs for not providing products is "its clearing customs" so I wonder if he will start to pull this again. It's just too bad because he's had so many chances to clean up his act, whether its on miata forums, s2000 forums, mr2, 240, etc, yet each time he fails miserably.

It's confirmed, DGR is Russ.

ecko 02-05-2011 04:52 PM

It's not like he's making them, they aren't likely to fail. He just won't admit they're the same as all of the Taiwan budget coils.

He's officially outed on m.net now with the new face of Chaser Aero taking the time to call him out. Oh the hilarity.

I'm just wondering where he gets the capital to try such a venture after so many know about how shitty he handled things in his last Miata product venture.

hustler 02-05-2011 07:29 PM

I bet I could call Taiwan with $10k and become a vendor too.

What was his screen name at m.net before Chaser? Did he have an Evo Orange or a custom painted car? 'Cause there was a Russ from MD a long time ago (5+ years) who ended up ripping some buyers off. It might have even been on the old Miatapower mailing list that FM ran for a while.

j_man 02-08-2011 07:30 PM

LOL. Now the DGR Tawain company is directly selling on ebay to USA for a cheaper price than Russ:

So much for Russ being the exclusive distributor for USA ..... LOL http://cdn.forumediainc.com/fmi/mt/i...milies/gay.gif
Or being an exclusive distributor was just another lie of his? http://cdn.forumediainc.com/fmi/mt/i...milies/gay.gif

What a faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag. From peddling $200 suspension to lying about it to insane shipping charges. I hate those cheap piece of shit sellers that try to jack "shipping charges" to get around having to pay higher eFag/PP fees and to sucker people into seeing a cheaper price. What fucking retard pays $140 to ship $200 suspension that has been marked up to $900 that is being sold by 32 other eGay vendors under various shady names with different colors. At least Riceland knows their suspension is only worth 1 paycheck's worth of minimum wage though their profit is still $199. Poor m.netters who are falling for this garbage...I need to find a way to extort money from them with some smoke and mirrors product too.
