It might work if the transmission is far enough rearward. apples/oranges, but my T5 original shifter location is underneath the radio.

Same. I moved mine back with the extended rod the least amount I could and it was too far back, so I basically did a bar like that to move it forward. A bar like that would work with the camaro tail housing, at least on my car.

Wow! I didn't realize the distance was that significant. I was unable to find out any more specifics on that was being used, it was from an anchient
thread in the v8 section.

What is the downside to using the camaro tailshaft?

less common. Worse ratios. And it might be at an angle.

Less common, ratios are in the gear set, the ford speedo gear is in a different spot on the output shaft than the chevy so you cant use it. Not like you were going to anyways.

It's annoying to find just a tailshaft. And I still think it has a weird slant to it.

ABS speedo ftw

Not tail shaft, just the housing.

aidandj 03-21-2017 10:11 PM

Sure. Still annoying to find.

10-4, adds complexity and cost, and 40mm still doesn't "fix" the issue.

There are 3 on eBay currently if anyone is interested enough.

Leafy 03-23-2017 08:13 PM

40mm is enough that you have to cut as much out of the front of the tunnel opening as you have to cut out of the back when moving it the minimal amount.

Late edit, the 94-95 mustang input shaft + the camaro tail housing would put the shifter right in the middle of the hole.

Just wanted to drop this here to see if it Sparks any ideas, the flathead bellhousing may be nowhere near the right diameter but the layout lends itself well to an adapter plate. Just a thought......

Speedway GM Manual Trans to Flathead V8 Adapter - GM Clutch - Free Shipping @ Speedway Motors

That one is setup for a clutch fork but they have versions that are clearanced for a hydraulic throw out bearing, there's even a 300$ kit that comes with everything needed to fit to the t5 trans.

Alternative 03-26-2017 08:13 PM

Adapters are available if you look in the proper places. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mia...59210776b0.jpg

Yup. Those have been available for a while. You used to be able to buy them on eBay. He had a ppf and shifter adapter too.

Alternative 03-26-2017 08:33 PM

I'm trying to get back in touch with him, do you recall what he was charging?

aidandj 03-26-2017 08:34 PM

Nope. Stanley Kowalski. You can find him on Facebook.

mgtmse01 12-28-2020 10:57 PM

i am guessing this project never worked out? i have to say that using the original miata bellhousing was an awesome idea.

TwoTone 01-12-2024 03:13 PM

I wanted to write here and see if anyone had any leads or drawings for a BP to TKO/Muncie bellhousing adapter like what Stanley previously offered.

2manyhobyz 01-12-2024 07:36 PM

There's been similar discussions on FB. V8 Miatas and High Horsepower Miatas.
someone was experimenting with the Miata automatic bellhousing. This is oversimplified, but why couldn't you cut a manual bellhousing, weld and machine a plate to the right center and depth for the T5 (or T56, etc)?
