lol y'all acting like it would be a bad thing if they kept making them. who cares? those that want/need a 3.3 are getting a killer part that was deemed a myth just a few months to a year ago, this is really cool. And I'd be surprised if MF didn't see the demand these have and started pursuing making more, as well as more trans stuff for Miata's. It's probably the only weak link left on turbo'd miatas.
Heck, I bet already most of the other companies have offered to sell their stuff and be their distributor, or do another run of these in the future :) (that's the only reason this thread hasn't been flagged repeatedly for "non vendor" by now :giggle: ) ...But seriously MF: y'all gonna have to become a vendor if this keeps going. There is also the issue that speedo will be off, I don't think Mazda ever made a 3.3 speedo sensor. So that is something else that will have to be dealt with. |
My soul hurts to see these go, i was going to purchase them tomorrow :( It would be great and a good thing if they kept making them, I missed out and so did many others did i am sure.
Lets hope MFMike comes in and says production will continue, otherwise i see a 3.63 in my future |

While there is demand, I don't think it is high enough for MFMike to make more. 30 people to get another batch made is a bit large, especially if you are trying to get them all to coordinate and pay up front. Not impossible, but highly unlikely. So while I could see them selling 30 more, it would probably take several years and I am doubtful they want to sit on them for that long.

The only reason these sold is because they may not be available anymore. Its like a Catch 22. If you stock them everybody waits and nobody buys them and they sit on them. I see it from both point of views. But everybody talks about spending money. But most don't ever do it.

I don't think you've been around long enough to make an incorrect observation like that. Maybe on ricer sites like CR that's how it works, but here the people that race are usually the people that have money, and spend more of it on a monthly basis than some of the stance retards spend in a year.
Sure the majority of the community is poor/broke/cheap, but let's not ASSume |
I don't believe what he said either. There is a large population of cars and the need is evidenced by how quickly these sold once discovered. A lot of us wouldn't be as likely to contribute money up front to a pie-in-the-sky, hope we can get a product that doesn't exist group buy as we would make a direct purchase from a supplying vendor for a real item in stock. I don't trust GB's for items that don't exist yet.
Regarding the speedo gear issue, I had a custom gauge face made by Revlimiter to match the change from 4.10 gears to 3.63 gears. It was not expensive. He could easily scale it for 3.3 gears in the same way. Problem solved. |
I use one of these on one of my motorcycles to correct the speedo for gearing changes and to just get rid of the OEM "error" they always include. You can set them to anything. There are other similar things available. Guessing they would probably work for the non-mechanical Miata. Can you not adjust it through MS on the newer cars? Sorry that's probably a dumb question but I was thinking you could. I've not installed my MS3 yet.

You can use them on NBs. Not on NAs.
NB speedo is driven directly from an electric sender on the trans. So you have to do custom wiring to make it work through the megasquirt. |

You might be right. We will see how it goes I guess.
Would you rather buy vaporware that sounds awesome in theory or would you rather buy a reproducible part that has the blessing of folks that run this shit hard enough to form a solid opinion. Oh, the experience of the latter in this 'niche' industry doesn't hurt all that much either. Look at how fast the 3.6's on the classifieds sell? It's gone within a few days at the most. Folks are much more willing to put down a deposit on something that is real and exists instead of something that sounds good with no proof of concept and a random person behind the wheel of the project. |
^ I completely failed to take that into account, I'll need to get some for 4.1 to 3.3. Thanks for bringing it up.
|
I mean we could go back and forth debating this all day. Maybe my opinion is right and maybe its wrong. In the end opinions dont matter though. I hope that these do get produced as more part choices is never a bad thing.
|
Maybe it's just me being an NA guy, but you all are sitting here salivating over 3.3:1 final drives, and I'm wondering if there's any off the shelf 5+:1 ring and pinions for less than Prather's cost for his run of 5.12:1s
|
MM-MAZ04052028 - Maruha Motors ring & pinion gears - MiataRoadster - High-performance service...and parts for Roadsters
Not sure how that compares price wise. |
That tends to happen when you're actually making power :D
|
You can get aftermarket Kia Sportage 5.12 gears for even cheaper I think.
|
5:12 with 6 speed might make nice Miata rock climber. Should redline at about 25 in 1st.....
|
|
I would have bought one of these, had I not decided to do productive things yesterday insteading of stalking mt.net, and therefore missed out on the frenzy.
