howver, it might appear PPG could be coming related to 6-speed gearsets.

Unfortunately a direct swap is not going to be possible from one platform to another. Pic shows 4 out of the 5 AZ6 transmission output shafts (missing: IS200) used in the last 20-ish years. Note the difference between them, which also have an integrated 3rd and 4th gear. Some industrious individual may be able to work out how to make a Frankenmission out of these units, and if we have time to play around with it we'll do it since we have all of the parts on hand, but it may not be a priority.

We are still 2-3 months out on receipt of the prototype set from PPG, and once we get it we are going to try to break it. When we figure out what it can handle, and what final cost will be, we'll see if there's a big enough call for it to cross over to other platforms and work towards that if so.

Update

After a few months of street and track testing (by 949 Racing, Andrew Kidd and a few select street cars), we are now happy to announce final approval of our 3.33 final drives (Part No.: MF-TRS-02F33)!

these do NOT have the same fitment/quality issues as experienced with the previous batch of final drives. However, as this is a sample batch, quantities are very limited, so they will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis. Again, I am not a sponsor on this forum though, so please do not ask any sales-related questions.

there is one caveat though, and you need to be aware of this:

Noise - The oem final drive is virtually silent due to the angle of the gear teeth. With our final drive, the helix angle is not as great, therefore there will be a small amount of whine/noise. Note that this is whine/noise only, and NOT vibration. Unfortunately, it is hard for us to tell you exactly how much noise as:

1) Every car has a different setup/modifications that affect interior/exterior noise
2) Every driver has different driving preferences (e.g stereo, windows up/down etc etc)
3) Every driver has different noise sensitivity

What I can say is this:

Track Car - If your car is used mainly on the track, then this is a non-issue. Just enjoy the experience of the new gear ratio :)

Street Car - If you are already used to a noisy interior (be it stereo, exhaust etc), then this is a non-issue. If you are not, but you think you "may" be fine with a little whine/noise coming from the rear end, may I suggest riding shotgun in a Honda with a set of MFactory gears (be it a Civic with close ratio gears, or an S2000 with a final drive). This will give you the closest experience of the level of whine/noise and whether you find it acceptable or not. Again, every driver is different, so it's hard to answer the inevitable questions regarding this after I've posted this reply! haha

If you are wanting an oem-level of noise/comfort, then unfortunately, this modification is not for you. And if you are wondering why we do not just increase the helix angle to be like oem, the reason simply comes down to cost; the tooling cost alone would make this impossible.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

I would like a set

Ted75zcar 06-09-2018 11:43 PM

You have PM, order finger hovering

dan91 06-09-2018 11:47 PM

These are the same as the 3.30s listed at teammfactory.com? I hope so, I just clicked order

MFMike 06-10-2018 03:45 AM

They are, yes

M2Ken 06-10-2018 08:38 AM

Does this mean a production run is following?

ysleem 06-10-2018 08:44 AM

Would be cool to have someone do a side by side run on a street application of cabin noise. I understand the aforementioned points just seeing if anyone would be willing to do it. Very interested.

nothing concrete => I better order now vs. deal with uncertainty. Order submitted and paid.

That ratio would pair well with a KMiata BMW 5 speed, fwiw.

msmola2002 06-10-2018 07:15 PM

Speaking as a former BMW nerd that came to the miata dark/gay side, the US spec E30 M3 with the OD gearbox (265) runs a 4.1 diff. The CR 265 with a 1:1 5th runs a 3.25. That gets you about 150mph but with a 205/65 15 tyre. The evo II has a 3.15. Redline 7200rpm.

my 323i had the 260 box and stock has a 3.46. Again, bigger tyres tham a miata. Redline 6500rpm

finally, one of those BMW gearbags would be a prime candidate for a samsonas gearset.

Samsonas Products

and they sound fucking great

and it looks liek VAC motorsports is a US distributor

Too many digits on the left of the decimal. And the gear boxes are plenty strong for a Miata already, just that a 1:1 5th gear made it difficult for many users to use factory diffs. These rear gearsets would maybe keep some people from swapping to getrag or Ford diffs for the taller ratios and higher top ends.

KMiata 06-11-2018 10:11 AM

This is awesome news. Pair the 3.3 gears with our new Miata diff mount that deletes the PPF, and a cheapo bulletproof ZF 5-speed trans would play really well with a turbo BP setup. I love seeing new options come to the table for these old cars.

6monther 06-13-2018 08:43 AM

Very cool to see this come full circle. Would this be overkill in a 150hp N/A application? The goal would be lower cruising RPM on highway. Currently have a 5 speed, could go to 6. Would this give up too much of the characteristic quickness from the low end that makes the car fun to drive? Was originally thinking 3.63 but this sounds easier to source.

Ted75zcar 06-13-2018 08:58 AM

3.3 + 6 speed is essentially the same as a 5 speed with 4.10 gears 1-5

AlwaysBroken 06-13-2018 12:01 PM

On a five speed I don't like it. 3.3 rear will make first gear very long. Actually every gear will be long. It will be like a normal five speed, only without first gear. And with a very long gear tacked on the end. Just dumb and inconvenient IMO.

On a six speed it's a no brainier. The shortness of the six speed gears and the long 3.3s cancel out and you basically end up with OEM five speed gearing, but with six speed strength and an extra gear for highway cruising.

I just put Xidas in the car so I need to get the wife a purse or something before I do this. But it's on the eventual to do list.

Gotta make room on my card for this guy again. The need is real.

Yes, I ask for a whole group of people: your vendor status is "in the mail" right?

Who do I contact with regarding to becoming a vendor?

I'm PM'd " Braineack ", but not sure if that was the correct contact or not?

MFMike 06-26-2018 02:47 AM

In contact with my agent at IB to get my Vendor status sorted out :)
