Every time I get going, there's a "clang" from the diff. My mechanic dove under the car and declared that my half shafts are going. Too much play.
Is he right? Is it possible for the half shafts to take a dive? Or is it my Torsen that's going?

Correct. It only clangs after a stop.

 

If its when you apply load it could be your u-joint. They make a ping when they are going out.
