Default Rx7 diffy housing

Did a little searching but couldn't find it spelled out for me:

Is the only difference between the miata differential housing and the NA RX-7 the "break points" in the mounting tabs? So if I welded my stocker would that effectively make both housings the same? It's not lighter/stronger/etc in any other way?

I have a spare rx7 NA differential that is useless to me, but then I read that some of ya'll niggs upgrade your cars with them, so I got curious, bi-curious

the rx7 housing is beefier in general and has no break point. What does that mean for the rear???? dunno.

Is it actually beefier in general? I'm aware of the break-point, but save for that they look identical. And if you weld the breaks that takes that out of the equation.

(I was gonna PM you this very question Brain, but I figured it'd be good for others to see/redicule)

I see it now. I was measuring using my Mil-spec MK-1 eyeball on my housing in the drive way and the one up under the car, and must have induced some error.

I swapped in a RX-7 housing on my wifes 97 after it got rear ended and broke the housing at the notch. It is definitely beefier, I should have weighed it before I installed it. The only diference I noted was the different bushings for the Miata and RX-7 housing.
