Default Spec NA shocks on NB: Do I need helper Springs

So I installed NA spec Miata bilsteins coil-overs in my NB.

The collars are so low that the spring has zero tension when jacked up... like a couple inches.

Is this normal? Should I use helper springs?

That's normal. They won't come unseated in normal driving conditions so it isn't a problem. Helper springs will prevent that. I think most people don't run them because we're cheap bastards
