LOTS of clanking for a bit, but I pulled it open, reached inside with a magnet on a stick (as well as magnets on the side I'd pull debris up with) and cleared out all of the chips. For a couple days there was some small clanking, but now the car runs fine, and the only downside is when I drive other people's cars, I skip 3rd from force of habit like a 90's corvette.
In a year I will be moving South and plan to spend a lot of time working hard to get up to that list with my 5 spd 4.30... FWIW I would never put a 3.anything in a miata intended for aggressive use. There is no use and it only makes it slower than the other easily available options (4.10 and 4.30)

Also, wow: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJ9gZ...eature=related Yeah, clearly vettes suck.
Anyway, I beat the **** out of my car without any thought to how it'd hold together. I would say 3rd was getting a bit harder to get into, but nothing I notices... Then, with much less power, I just popped it. Go figure. My only advice: Put the 6 in now, sell the 5 while it still works, that will pay for your R&P swap alone.
