Hey @Kanaan , not trying to thread jack, but how do you like that turbo? I've been thinking about upgrading to one.
I dont have any complaints with it although i dont have a real one to compare it to of course for spool and what not but feels good to me. I think ive kind of reached the end of this 2860 on my 1.6 tho. If i could go back i would have gotten a 2867, but i suppose that entire depends on your goals with it, ive never had it on a dyno. I dont really track the car and living in Oklahoma theres not many fun roads here so most of my fun is in a straight line so im good with a bit of lag i guess.
Manual housings really suck to cut off with a grinder, need to pull the one in the car now and measure it up and what not. Dont think i wrote all the measurements down as good as i wanted to...
Quite the fiasco with the car over the last few days. Decided since the old housing was off the car id just try to weld it up a bit better instead of making the new one just yet, did that still turned out crappy but is what it is at this point, cleaning/preheating and stuff nothing helped too much with just all the junk in the cast, a bit of porosity here and there but at this point it is waht it is.. Ended up stripping every allen bolt head but 3 on the pressureplate and cutting them was very sketchy since its under pressure, Idk who in their right mind uses allen head bolts for crucial hard to remove fasteners but whatever, another 70$ wasited on arp's. Welding the housing threw it off .02" so now i have to make my own offset dowels to correct that so another rabbit hole. Hoping it doesn't throw the starter alignment off too much as it has to go in the 10 oclock direction.
Holy crap dude. Lots of exciting things going on here.
My bellhousing and pressure plate bolts are both allen head type. I'm not too worried about the bellhousing bolts since they're mostly 8 and 10mm, but I'm not looking forward to removing the PP bolts if the clutch/flywheel ever have to come out.
Mine are all socket head type though, so are a bit deeper. Those button heads seem ill-suited to the task they had haha.
Hope you're able to push through and get it all back together cleanly!
I found an open box quicktime unit on Ebay a few weeks ago. just got the fly wheel on today.. checking the measurements tomorrow on it.
Nice!
i havent felt like working on mine for a while so no new updates, still need to make the dowels to get mine re-aligned. Nice snag on finding that tho.
Found a housing off what im guessing is a NB automatic, seems a bit beefier... I actually have acquired a Bridgeport and bigger lathe since making the last one so no more fooling around with mini benchtop machines.
It's been quite a minute since the last update. How're you doing with that vibration at 85?
I haven't really driven the car all that much in the past year or so, i think i got a bit burnt out and got side tracked with other hobbies since making that first one it kind of got me down the hobby machining rabbit hole. I kind of forgot where i left off on it really. Its been ok enough to break it out every now and again but typically i dont go hitting 100 every time i do so hasnt been too much of an issue but still need to dig into it some more.
Hey @Kanaan did you ever look into using a clutch from a Pontiac Solstice? They seem to use the same diameter input shaft and 26 spline. I assume it's the same spacing and such being GM.
Some disks look to be around the size of a Miata clutch, but there seems to be some variance between manufactures and trim/engine. Seems like it might be a easier off the shelf solution if it could hold the torque.
