275/35/15 TW200?

It occurred to me that with the advent of our affordable and readily available 15x11, there might be sufficient demand for a 275/35/15 in something like a VR-1. Both for the stancekids and high hp NA/NB builds. The 245's are awesome but 275's go to 11.
I reached out to my contacts at Maxxis to see if a small production run would be possible. The original 275/35/15 Hoosier was simply a 225/45/15 with 2 inch plug in the center. Could we take the 245/40 and put a 30mm plug in the center. Dunno? Might be worth doing.

Thoughts?

P.S. Insta neg cat for asking if they fit unmodified fenders

Scaxx 11-03-2016 03:12 PM

Thoughts? I love you.

Yes please.

julio 11-03-2016 03:17 PM

You are going to make me hack up my low mileage MSM I've been trying to not tear up.

stefanst 11-03-2016 03:21 PM

Do they fit under modified fenders? :fawk:
I'd say the RC1 would be more of a candidate, wouldn't it? If you're going that extreme width, you're probably not looking for rain performance.

psyber_0ptix 11-03-2016 03:41 PM

Dammit. I just got my car painted. I'm not touching the fenders for a while.

Der_Idiot 11-03-2016 04:08 PM

I would buy them, provided the price is reasonable. I love my 245 VR-1's already and struggle in the warm to break them free on pump gas (e85 however...) so another 30mm would be awesome.

Now I have to consider going from 15x9 to 15x11...

glade 11-03-2016 04:30 PM

Unequivocally yes, to both

Unless you live somewhere tropical and you don't stop for rain.

A 200TW tire would be great for some of the higher hp guys. I'd take a set or 3

This is about a street street legal tire that isn't useless in the rain. Not an HPDE/autocross focused product although they could obviously be used for that.

Anybody that needs more grip than a 275/35/15 VR-1 will generate on track will opt for Hoosiers, Toyo RR, FA fronts or something similarly suitable.
IOW, a 275/35 VR-1 overlaps with smaller Hoosiers in terms of $/speed. It's not practical however, to run a full slick on the street as a daily for most drivers. Thus the need for the biggest damn street tire evar.

I would definitely be interested. It's always seemed like a bit of a chicken/egg situation for wide 15" wheels and tires, the interest was there but there were no solutions. I would be interested to hear how sales of the 245s have been as far as Maxxis is concerned. Seems like that would be the key to this, if those have beaten expectations I would think they would be much more receptive.

Favorable:)
That is about all I can share.

But yes, until there is recorded sales history for a given size, the industry is reluctant to open new molds for niche sizes. This particularly so for less profitable per unit weight 15's than higher margin 17+ diameters.
Took about 3 years to make 225/45/15 Hankook Z212's happen. Took about 7 years for affordable 245/40/15's to happen. We start making noise now, we might have our 275's in 18-24 months. Worth a try.

Can you imagine an LSx swapped Exocet with 15x11's and 275's?

18psi 11-03-2016 06:22 PM

The answer is indeed yes.

but the real question is: will these herrafrush me out to be the illest, most diseased, freshlaced stancenation flat brimmed brobrotron in all hardparking lots in the universe?

auto negkat for "tuck"
auto pozkat for "poke"

choose wisely

aidandj 11-03-2016 06:28 PM

I mean is this really a question that needs to be asked?

When asked if you want moar tire, the answer is always YES.

18psi 11-03-2016 06:31 PM

it's almost as absurd as asking "moar boost?" amirite?

emilio700 11-03-2016 06:44 PM

OGK with no windshield frame, wide body, QBE60G and K20 rolling on 15x11 275's. Street registered.
Yes, I believe the answer is yes.

Would love to see it, but realistically I'm not a buyer for that size.

:drama:

paNX2K&SE-R 11-03-2016 09:47 PM

I bought 2 sets of the 245s this year, love them. I'd definitely be on board for some 275s!

TNTUBA 11-04-2016 03:58 PM

I would be interested. Especially is some of these "drag week" style Autocross events continue to grow.

FWIW I am making progress with Hoosier on building a 23" tall A7 wider than 275mm.

I will post more details when I have more information.
