I reached out to my contacts at Maxxis to see if a small production run would be possible. The original 275/35/15 Hoosier was simply a 225/45/15 with 2 inch plug in the center. Could we take the 245/40 and put a 30mm plug in the center. Dunno? Might be worth doing.

Thoughts?

P.S. Insta neg cat for asking if they fit unmodified fenders

all I have been able to find are 275 35 15 nankang ar-1
but they are 100 tread wear any one make a 200 tread wear like the cr-1 in 275 35 15?

Yes, yes, I'm in!!!

I would love to see this happen. I'd even prepay for a production run of these.

Nanking had the 275 on the "future" tire size list for the CR-1 but they since took it off. Not sure if they saw the demand of the AR1 and decided it wasn't worth it or if it's a clerical error. I can't even find the future size list for the CR-1 anymore.

But yes a 200tw 275 is needed and wanted, But i'm honestly worried they will stop making the AR1 even.

CR-1 has been renamed as well. Its now the CR-S.

The ruleset(GLTC) that was driving the biggest professional cheerleader (Scott) towards this has changed, so Im not sure who was the last to speak with anybody at Nankang. Maybe Scott will update when he sees this.

My personal motivation for driving this has disappeared due to GLTC tire rule changes, but I still think there's demand for it.

I haven't been in touch with anyone at Nankang in a while... and I would be willing to pass along my contacts info to whomever would like to take up the cause.

One nice thing about this potential 285/30 is that you would need to droop the suspension a bit more to get a safe ride height. Possibly even run shock hat spacers. Otherwise you risk the frame rails hitting the ground at full bump. But putting the suspension a bit further into droop raises the roll centers which would be very beneficial. Effectively gaining bump travel so everything else being equal a car set up with these would go over bumps better. From past experience, it takes at least 350whp for a tire this big to actually be faster on a road course than a 245. But for autocross you only need about 170.

Interesting

I saw they sent Eric Anderson some sets to test. I wonder since someone jumped in the water now, will Nankang finally do their 275/35/15 CRS?

Bronson M 01-21-2023 03:52 PM

We can only hope Nanking follows through, but they already have sales data on the 275 AR1 so it's pretty telling that they haven't.

I talked with Sammy from Miata source at length about these, the tire height was picked specifically for three reasons emelio mentioned. Also it appears it's going to be a while for these to be released, the manufacturer he's been working with is working some angles in but at liberty to discuss, they'll share even they're ready. But this season isn't going to happen
