Rs4 is almost as loud as NT01 on the street. I love the RS4 on track but refuse to use it as a dedicated street tire because of the noise.

Thanks. Par for the course, I guess. Will have to consider a more mainstream tire (ExtremeContact or the like) the next go-round.

My turbo is pretty quiet, everything inside the car is loud, everything sounds quiet outside the car.

I can barely hear anything over the gear noise my Quaife gearset makes at highway speeds. However, tire sizzle is one of the more annoying intrusions on even that tremendous din.

I haz no turbo :(, but unless the asphalt is crap wind and 4.78's + poly tend to make the most noise.

I had RS3 and RE71 and 71's were noisier on concrete or rough pavement. I would imagine RS4s are the same (better).

I recall my old NT01s being far louder than the RS4s I have now. It has been a while since I've been on NT01s, though.

I dont find my 225 RS4's to be excessively loud on the hwy. i mean the whole car is loud, between the wind noise and exhaust... sure i can hear the tires on the hwy, but its part of the miata experience, its not a lexus people.

I now have 8 days, 28 sessions or about 10 hours at Sebring plus about 800 street miles on my 225RS4's on 9" and these things wear like iron. Say 1/2 gone? "Not my normal street tires."

I can see why the endurance guys like them. They come on quickly, drop a bit after about 4-5 laps, then stay pretty consistent.

Do not work nearly as well as a 205 RS3 or a PSS in the rain, but stick much better in the dry say 4 seconds a lap?

Defiantly not as sticky as some of the 200's or a true track tire, but hold up fantastic in the heat on a roadcourse and give good predictable feedback.

Given they are not my street tire I will probably go something much stickier " and wider" next set, but for dual use with a track focus they are very good.

tested the new tire setup last week, overall really happy. Not as crisp or sticky as the Re71r, but very easy to drive, and grip is still excellent. Braking is not as good though, but you get use to it. As a reference, the guy who won the class ( i was beating him by about .2-.3 sec last year) is now running r888r 205 on 15x8 and a new torsen, put me about 1.3 sec on 55sec lap. Our cars are almost identical besides tires and final drive.
Did I mentionned that these do not seem to wear? Lol They will definetly last way longer than the Re71r.

Heeeey, haha. Koni Race probably gives you a few tenths in the bumpy stuff especially vs my lowly Yellows, but you lose that on front aero I'd think. Sanair Trioval wasn't so much a tyre track I dont think, if you do ICAR it should give a better idea.

Curious to see if you'll chunk them like we all did ! Although your setup is better than what I had last season when I ran them.

what a thread guys just spent 1hr going over everything ... rs4 is a great tire tghat barely wears..... but re71r is better grip.

Finally wore out the RA-1s I had installed for last year's expedition to MRLS, so the RS4s were mounted a couple of days ago in time for today's track day. It was cool and wet today, so I was grateful for having a tire with some tread. What wasn't so great was green tires, as the mould-release compound made the first couple of sessions a little hairy - like driving on greased snot came to mind. Once it dried up and I could scuff them in a bit, I came away really happy. They grip really well (seat of the pants put them on a par with an RA-1 or NT-01) and don't show any sign of chunking or even much marbling. Our local Spec Miata champ took my car out for a session and he pronounced them very, very good (he liked my car as well). All in all, a great recommendation from mt.net, so thank you all.

Oh, per the above recommendation, I started at 32 psi cold and they stabilized at 35 once things warmed up and dried out.

I don't think what you were feeling was mold release. These tires are very heat sensitive, they are super slick until you get them warmed up. I'd say you just couldn't get them hot enough in the wet.

If your running 225 on a 9", or 245 on a 10" you might experiment with lower pressures. I've found both setups like something closer to 28 psi

Food for thought - thanks Bronson. Mine are indeed 225s on a 9" wheel, so I'll play around with lower pressures the next time out. I'll also be wary of grip levels when cold.

FWIW, I run my 245 on 10's at 20-22 psi warm for AutoX to get them to bite more. Would be running more pressure for larger track stuff. Definitely play with pressures, but I can confirm the are lacking in grip while cold (especially when wet).

Wow.....22psi. I've got enough tread for one more Autox so I'll experiment with lower pressures, honestly I never went lower than 27 to 28psi.

I would have thought that more pressure would have helped them get warmer quicker... I run 195's on 15x8 and ended up at around 30psi warm, didn't have time to test different temperature though.
