Default MSM autocross budget wheel/tire combo

Hey guys I just got a MSM and As much as I like the way the RacingHarts look, I know they weigh a ton and performance wise i'm better off with something else. I think my best bet since the RacingHarts have brand new tires on them will be to keep them for daily driving and get another set up for autocross. Being a broke college student I'm shooting for like around $700

What is a good autocross set up on a budget? I'm thinking maybe I can find some cheap stock NB wheels and get some sticky summer tires that will fit there. Maybe 205s?

Thoughts?

Depends on the class you choose to compete in.

Knee-jerk reaction is to save a little more as necessary to get a set of 15x9s wrapped in your choice of ~200tw 225/45-15 tires.

I've been eyeing up the Bronze 6UL's in 15x9 with some RS3's but they are a bit out of my budget.. especially since I just bought the new car. I will have to see how the car does stock next week at the autocross. I just do local event's each month through my college and we don't have super strict rules with the classing. I'm pretty much classed with the other miata's regardless haha. It's just a bunch of friends killing cones on the weekends really, not so much competitive as the regional SCCA stuff.

There's other cheaper choices in 15x9s.

Though in a pinch, especially as long as your car remains under mostly stock power and you aren't concerned with breaking records and such, a 15x8 wrapped in a 205/50 is fine, too.

15x8 with a 225 is fine. 225s are just faster on 9s than they are on an 8.

Seems like there is a better selection in the 225s for a decent price. I was looking at Dunlop ZII for 205 but idk. I will have to find a second set of wheels first.
