Not really unless you're going to cut/flare the fenders. The problem with 17"s as I have found, is that there is a great selection of tires and sizes, but they all have a significantly larger diameter and make fitment difficult. The 225/45 15" has a diameter of ~23". The 215-40/17 tires I run are 23.9". Try to go bigger with 17" tires and you run into the 25" diameter mark very quickly. A 2" difference in diameter is huge an on NA/NB....the NC can handle it all day long. The most you can really do with a 17" is a 225/40...and only Hoosier makes a tire in that size. Having 17" wheels is difficult in the end and I will eventually be moving to 15x9 one day so I can run the 225/45's.
Here's my car with 235-40/17 tires, doesn't sound too bad, but they're pretty stuffed in there...

well doppel the overall diameter means a little bit less seeing as i am planning on 350lbs of torque is my goal out of the v8 i am putting in my car.
And i may end up having to flare. Because i do not want to have to spend 200 a tire for a street tire that i am going to burn through. Although its a you have to pay to play game. I would like to possibly feel out the 17inch rim ball game.
It is hard to pull them off but your car does so. If my car gets full aero and 17s with flares possibly then i think fitting them would be slightly less noticed. Especially having the v8 in the car.
235/40 seems to be a pretty good idea. What width is that rim ?

as much as i would love the awr i think it is hard to come by anymore.
i think that i would wait for the blistered fenders and the rear over quarters from autokonexion. so that the car would be wider but un noticed to the untrained eye.
so the question stands doppel are 17x9 with meaty tires a good option?

Anyways, selling these things off when the car gets back for a set of tungsten 15x8 6uls - maybe 9s. Will be running a 225/45 of some sort - R1Rs likely, maybe RA1. Guess it depends on how quick I have to buy another set.
