That's the exact opposite of what rebuilding an SR20 turbo at home is all about

Of course. and then back to gpop for a billet compressor upgrade. and then to swaintech to coat the hotside. and then to a jewlery shop to gold plate the compressor housing.
Oh and I'm having the ABSURDflow manifold coated in inconel mixed with diamonds.
200whp for $20,000 come at me broz

I can appreciate that and considered it myself. However, I've been fine over almost 20k miles using my super precise scratch-the-wheel-and-nut-and-shaft-to-align technique

vlad, you sick son of a bitch. I actually think you are really going to like this setup, it will be nice on a stock motor to not have to worry about popping it as much too.

You probably already answered this, and I know you well enough to guess the answer anyways, but... e85?

hahaha yes of course.

though for now I'm just going to focus on putting it all together and getting it up and running, and only worry about injectors/clutch/etc after its turbo'd.

Don't want to get ahead of myself like I always do. And don't want to set time frames. I'm sick of all that stuff lol

Car is being driven every single day until the whole setup is completely ready to be dropped in, and even then I don't plan to have it down for more than a weekend. I love driving it. I hate not driving it.

*EDIT: just ordered that bulkhead fitting and a gm ait from DIY

Holy ****!

I just read a 64 page thread about your car, and (correct me if I am wrong) the only time it ran correctly with forced induction was on a FFS cold side MP62?

Dude, get yourself another FFS system... your destiny is on the dark side of the force!

Not sure if joking. I hated the FFS. I already have almost everything to go through with current plans and current setup.

It is kind of a bummer about what happened with the last two setups.

But the 3 before that, with my '00, all worked. So with this next one I'm keeping it simple.

I was kidding about going back to the FFS... but have you considered a 99/00 head? I know you love VEE VEE TEE, But it looks like all of your problems in this thread have been head related.

Thing you have to realize is that when **** happens, **** happens. He may have made a mistake himself on the last engine he built that caused issues but the rest can be chalked up to crap that happens when you highly customize an engine with EFI and Begi(teehee).

If you want a current example of not in your control look at EO2K or Turbofan's thread. Or my thread for a true case of, "well ****...".

I think what most of us realize is that it is going to happen, so bitch about it for a couple pages and move on and either stop wasting money(as Vlad has...kinda) or beat your head against the concrete and make it work.

I hear you.

I noticed that Vlad seems to be knowledgeable and helpful, so figured reading his thread would be cool... but I have boost blue ***** now!

I lashed out a bit (FFS darkside comment) because boost blueballs hurts

lol its all good guys. I kinda agree with both of you: no matter how careful you are, issues still come up, even when you buy baller parts and know what you're doing.

The most important thing is learning from your experiences.

I've built enough subaru and miata engines by now to at least somewhat know what I'm doing, and even still - each time I learn something new, and formulate opinions about parts and strategy and what I like and don't like. I think that's cool.

Up to now its always been about the journey for me. As soon as I built something I'd get bored and sell it, and start all over. Well I think that's starting to change now. I'm now trying to enjoy not only the journey, but the finished product.

For example: my current subaru only has wheels, suspension, intake, and a pretty solid tune. I have a TON of really awesome parts sitting in my garage waiting to be istalled, and I don't even care that much to actually do it. I'm just loving the car at its current state too much to even have motivation to touch it.

Kinda same with miata. I love that its up and on the road, and I get to drive it every day. I walk out of my work every day and enjoy my walk to the car, cause I love how it looks and I love that I have it. It looks exactly how I want, I love it, it drives great, its comfy, its perfect. Its so clean you can eat off any surface of it, and that gives me an OCD boner.

So I'm not going to hurry like crazy and slap a ton of crap onto it this time. I'm going to hang onto this really solid and simple setup I got from Gordon, and possibly even build the spare motor on the side (I'm sure I already posted about it, I bought another vvt long block as a spare), and just kinda enjoy it rather than chasing some crazy goals and being frustrated all the time.

Ok I'll stop blabbing now

PS: not to mention I'm actually tuning and wrenching on a bunch of cars for other people these days. And getting to drive some pretty quick cars while I do it

I think the OCD boner somehow screws $hit up! I have been OCD and try to do everything correct and perfect from the get go and always something stupid happens. Then I see around cars with zip ties and electrical tape (well more like 3M painters tape holding wiring together) and they run perfect...

I like to call it analysis paralysis. You are so OCD about researching every angle, exception, and possible answer and you shoot yourself in the foot by overcomplicating things.

The internet, and more specifically, google search, was the worst and best thing that happened to me. It was part of the reason I went so overboard on my Miata. I kept reading more and more and wanting to do more and more. Once your(my) brain gets ahold of a new piece of information it goes crazy with researching it.

Got a package from G-Pop today

Also notice what its sitting on (finally replaced the vacuum fitting and re-assembled)

let the turbo reassembly begin
(of course I gots to have MT open and ready to search should I have any questions )

and ready for the housings
Its virtually new now.
I think I'm gonna sandblast them, and weld "regular" inlet and outlet fittings to the compressor.

this is gonna be the best sr20 t25 on the block
