Tell me what's wrong with this T3? The price scares me. The specs are what I am looking for for my Turbo miata project (build thread incoming - some day) but what does one look for in a chinacharger anyways? Any sellers to look for in particular? A $90 turbo just seems...way too good to be true, even for what the Chinacharger fans have said on here.

Looks fine although a little bit small. Not much to look for in a chinacharger. If it doesn't work or breaks after 1000kms, buy another one.

A little bit small is what I'm tending towards. I'm looking for a 2554-equivalent in a T3 sizing. Those specs were, based on my research, as close as I can get with a T3.

Thanks, but that's the thread that convinced me to go smaller in size and go with a chinacharger .

Was looking for more of an indication of quality, but at $90, whatever.

Holy crap, you actually did your homework and made a intro thread! This is a rare sight.

Anyway, we have a member on here running that same turbo. He has reported no problems to far. Just do some more specific searches with user names and trim sizes of the turbo, you should get a few hits. Did you decide to do the 1.8 swap, keep the 1.6 or go Rotard?

A genuine Garrett SR-20 turbo is very very close to a 2554, and you could probably pick one of those up for maybe $90? Is there any special reason that you want to use a T3?

I'm pretty certain there's no way I'll stay with a 1.6. I can install a good low mileage 1.8 with everything for less than a good low mileage 1.6 will cost me - and the current 1.6 my Miata has is getting tired, or at least is from a rotary perspective. White smoke is -extremely- bad on rotaries, I don't know about piston. I need to do a compression test and whatnot, but any white smoke on a rotary is an extremely bad sign. While the smoke only comes on during startup, and could be nothing more then condensation due to it being winter, my rotary experience demands I have backup plans available pronto.

As I noted in my Intro thread, you miata guys have stuff amazingly cheap. I'm used to dropping more on a good engine core than you guys spend on a full turbo setup. I'd like to go rotard simply for the ease of use, as I can tune one in my sleep with a MS, but the price is hard to justify. Really hard to justify. You guys have no idea how good you have it with prices.

Existing rotary hardware that is T3.

(Edit) For clarification, all the turbo hardware I have is T3. I suppose I'm not necessarily opposed to going with something else, it's just that all my current hardware is T3 (With v-bands at that...). Hence T3 was my initial go-to.

If the specs are right in the description, then it is close to a 60trim compressor wheel in a wannabe t04e housing, and stg 3 turbine wheel in a .63 a/r t3 housing.

However, it looks like one I bought a few years ago(similar m12 marking) and the compressor wheel turns out to be a 45 trim(50mm In, 76mm Ex) with the same turbine measurements stated above.

If you want something similar to a 2554 in a t3, there are better options out there. Like this:

Whipping out the credit card and buying that right now, while at work even.

OP: On a 1.6, this is quite a large turbo. As someone else has posted, if this is a street car and you use a 1.6l, use a .48ar turbine housing.

a T04e 50 trim wheel is good for 480HP. yeah, a bit small. Funny, cause it's also sized larger than his "Gt28" in his sig...which is sized like a GT2871 in a .86 A/R housing...similar to the size Savington is using.
