Uhm, in my opinion you've got to be ignorant to be a liberal.. Perfect related example is all the media morons who seem to think that drug cartels are buying .50 cal rifles so they can shoot border agents from 5 miles away. Yeah, because making a 5 mile shot takes absolutely no skill or training at all, I'm quite sure someone in the cartel has that kind of skill. Just my $0.02.

I wish companies would give technical specs on gun parts already. Can't for the life of me find out how much that Model 1 barrel weighs. "Shipping weight" is 1 pound but that's UPS's minimum measurement so that doesn't tell you ****.

Wish I had that kinda time. Maybe 3k, more realistic maybe 2-2500. Most was 9mm lead @ $0.07/round.

Not 100% in agreement, but if anybody every says a 5 mile kill shot can be made they are making up. The longest confirmed kill shot on record was just over 1.5 miles with a Accuracy International AWM shooting .338 Lapua Magnum.

Also, we gotta step up our sharp shooting, there is a Brit and two Canadians ahead of us.

Fifth one down, Carlos Hathcock, amazing history. When I used to play with the tank mounted Cal .50 in the early '60s I was amazed at the repeatability at long range firing single shots. It is understandable that putting a scope on it could be a very effective sniper's tool.

Did you see the History channel thing on snipers where they featured him? What he did toke some serious skill and *****. He has 93 confirmed kills that he racked up during the Vietnam (imagine the crappy night scope he had) and the NVC had a $30,000 bounty on his head because he killed so many of their men.

There ya go, just one small example of my point. The funny thing about that video, I was just checking some reviews on FailZero coatings and stumbled on it in a playlist on youtube, I didn't even search for it.

I work with a metric ton of ignorant liberal anti-gun retards so I have to put up with that every day. My favorite of their "talking points" is the so-called "Gun show loopholes." Yeah. These tools actually think you can walk into a gun show and pay a FFL licensed DEALER an extra Ulysses S. Grant to walk away with a brand new firearm without a 4473. Ever been to a show and you see someone has a table with a sign "Private Sale" there? That's what I think they assume to be FFL licensee selling guns "under the table" or "loophole" style. No explanation on the planet will convince these for brains mental retards that selling ONE new firearm "off the books" for an FFL guarantees federal prison time when they get caught.

That isn't even scratching the surface.

Anyone ever heard of Black Rifle LLC?

Spend at least an hour talking to them if they make it down to any shows here in KC. They're the greatest people and shops located in Columbia Missouri. Love that ad..

I wanna get in on something like that^ once I get out of the Marines.

I've seen that NBC news clip before and can't bring myself to watch it. I know there are a lot of anti-gun people out there, but there are also strong gun lobbies (one of the few lobbies I like) which help keep the green weenies in check. Also, clips like that are why I'm buying an AR as soon as I get out of boot camp.

Also also, how long does it take to get a CCW permit? And if I have to go somewhere else after boot camp (and I will), will I have to get a permit for that state too? I'm trying to figure out when I should get my CCW, I'll have 10 days leave after BC.

Everything you want to know is here:
http://www.usacarry.com/

It's easiest to get a CCW in the state you are a resident of, assuming that state has easy-to-get CCW laws. Some states allow you to get a "non-resident" licence that is good only in that state... although some states allow non-resident permits from other states. The problem of CCW reciprocity (what is/isn't allowed in each state) is an ongoing legal issue that will probably be before the supreme court soon.

Applying for a CCW is a matter of filling out a few forms and paying your fee. Some states require proof of formal firearms training from an accredited place. Sometimes this "place" must be certified by the state... like courses given at your local gunshop.

In any case, as a member of the military, you never have to change your state of permanent residence each time you move. Where are you going through boot-camp... Perris or San Diego? You cannot get your CCW in California, so don't even try, and you cannot carry in California with a CCW permit from another state. SC is a very unrestrictive state, but you've gotta be 21 (which I believe is a national age limit). RMCELWEE on this forum is from SC and is an active CCW guy... contact him for the legit details.

Do you know where you're going after bootcamp? If you know you're going to Texas or Florida, then wait until you get there and declare residency. Establishing permanent residence is as easy as getting your drivers licence and registering to vote... plus changing whatever administrative military forms the Corps has.

The advantage to Texas or Florida is that there is no state income tax... save you $$$ every year. I know in Florida, registering your car is a piece of cake... no smog check, so feel free to tune your car a little rich for safety, cause Florida don't care. Another advantage is that simple proof of military service is adequate to proove firearms training. When you send in your paperwork for your permit, send a copy of your military ID and you're good. I also submitted proof of completing Navy-Course xyz basic pistol class as a backup, but was told it was not needed.

In addition to USACarry, almost every state has a state-government website that will help walk you through the process. Florida's is awesome... that state WANTS it's citizens to get CCW's.

Also... just bought this:
http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/MARKIIFVSR

$197 shipped from Buds. I'd been looking for a bolt-action .22lr for a few weeks now. This gun was $240 a few days ago... just had a huge price-drop so I got it. A few buddies have some extra scopes lying around for me to try, so I might not even have to buy one.

Thanks for the tips Sam. I should be going to MCRD Parris Island in March or April according to my recruiter (was Feb, ankle stress fracture delayed me). I can not take a gun down there during BC, but after that I'll have Marine Combat School in NC believe, and then Combat Support school, which may be in SC if I get Artillery, or could be somewhere else if I get put in a tank/APC/something like that, and then I'll have the opportunity to have a firearm. Age won't be a problem, I'm 21 now and will be 22 after I graduate from Parris Island.

at times, sure

This afternoon we stopped at Walmart and I decided to buy some clays because it had been awhile since I'd shot any. This was my first attempt and I successfully hit two clays most of the afternoon/evening, I wasn't able to get more than 3 at once with that shotgun as it's no longer suited for sport shooting and I'm out of practice.

Holy man.... I've been wanting a heavy barrel 22 bolt rifle.... ordered!! They've (Savage) got a .17HMR version of the same rifle I've been wanting, but I think one .17HMR gun is enough for me considering the price of ammo.. $14/50rds sucks.

(Really?? Now we're not even putting in stars for "bad" words??? )
