That looked pretty normal to me (i.e., I do that at least once a day at the track -- you don't get faster if you don't experiment). But stopping in the grass? Nah, keep it rolling if you can. In the dry season, that equals fire.

What made your shifter come out? Strange.

Couldn't get it in gear with the shifter, thats why I stopped.

Bolts were too short and stripped the threads out.

Are these stripped bolts from the miataroadster kit?

Not sure. I got the kit second hand. But I would encourage anyone who has one to check.

Coming up: some poor track driving, and red mist driving on my behalf. Also poor filming (and shitty vertical video) because I had the camera mounted sideways to my helmet.

*******.

Yes, I realize now why the M4 was so slow to give the point by, since the 911 should have given him the point by much sooner. I was still mad at the M4. I should have pitted and asked for space.

I did approach the 911 driver after this session and asked him if he saw the passing flag. He said he never saw it... It was waved at him at least 4 times. At that point I did go to the organizer simply because it's one thing if you're just being a dick and not giving point by's... it's another thing entirely if you're completely oblivious to the flaggers.

Fun starts around 5:30.

Yup. Ed got the point by for one reason, he filled his mirrors. I know the M4 owner. That car would walk over all of ours with the right driver, however the owner is a decent driver albeit a little timid. He was staying way too far back.

Old video but good ilustration of what i do, I get close or next to them, turn on the head lights and that usually works. I also let slightly slower guys with less hp (better drivers than me in the spec miata) pass me to learn their lines and break points, its like having an instructor ryding along
Check out this video on YouTube:

I was flashing my brights at them coming out of every corner onto passing straights. For multiple consecutive laps.

I did intermediate that day because it was my first time that direction at ORP. But from here on out, if I've done a day at the track before and Advanced is still point-by passing only, I'll do advanced. Not ready for open passing.

We don't have good lane dicipline in the US, people just don't look in the mirror much and often sit in the fast lane for miles on the higway and the same goes for the track , i run the Nürburging for 1.5 hrs last summer and only got hang up once by a biker, the bad drivers at the ring just crash LOL

My biggest issue with filling mirrors is a lot of these people can be very inconsistent on track. Braking too early, at different places every turn, random braking because they don't know where to go. When I'm on someones *** I have no idea if they are about to slam on the brakes. Ed drives way closer than I feel comfortable driving behind someone.

If someone is behind you for more than a few corners let them by.

Separate question: What is people's opinions on point by's when in line. I was in a line of 5 cars all waiting to get pointed by. There was a BMW on my tail, who was faster than me on the straights, but we were still stuck in a line.

I didn't point him by until I cleared the line, and then let him by. After the session he passive aggressively walked by me and said if someone is behind you for 4 laps let him by. I responded with the correct amount of vulgar insults and we went on our way. Was I in the wrong for not letting him by while I was also waiting to be let by?

I agree 100% that if someone is behind you for more than a few corners that you need to let them by. I practice this zealously. But others don't and need a bit more pressure.

Also, at least in the case of the BMW I was watching him and didn't feel like he was driving erraticly, so I was comfortable getting closer. For the Porsche... he was erratic, but I wanted to run him off the road, so......... Red mist.

I agree, i have had ocations when the driver ahead hits the brakes when i was expecting them to get on the gas.
If i find myself at the tail end of a long line of cars i just slow down for a lap and let them go until i can get a few hot plaps before catching them, and hope it clears out by the time i get back to them.
