There's a guy currently doing this. So far, he's gotten the car to run. That's without any VVT control whatsoever (plans for an RPM switch are trivial, and there's a driver on the board for it - full VVT control is possible in a number of theoretical ways but none have been attempted). So far, he's also been unable to get the alternator working, but I'm sure this is just a question of getting a reliable wiring diagram for an 01 and figuring out which pins go where.
So the answer is... Yes, if you don't mind some serious tinkering. On the one hand, you get the flexibility to write your own VVT controller, just how you want it. On the other hand, you may just have to. :-) There's a cam-phase recorder in MS-II right now, but taking it to the next level has only been talked about. I imagine it's a feature which will show up in time - but I once bought a turbo kit with the promise of a feature which never materialized, and I don't want to lead you on.

P.S. I've got a MSM head and a '01 head side by side, and haven't decided which to put on my built short block.. So consider me highly interested in the answer to your question.

Ok, I got the PWM board from the mail today. If I have time today, I'm going to go ahead and install the damn thing.
Whats really strange is that I googled the IC chip that was accompanied in Jeans kits, and there is NO INFORMATION on tis chip at all. Its as if the part# never existed.
Abe, sorry for yet, another clarification, but is this how I am supposed to wire it?

Awesome. Yeah, sorry, I vaguely remember seeing the notice for this post come in, but I couldn't even tell you what day it was. Can't wait to read up and see how it is working.

Another datapoint: I just installed one of these in local 2000 Miata ( owners autocross's in CSP)
Using the board's voltage regulator and it works great.
The owner won his class last weekend in local event. Runs really strong after dyno session running almost exact same timing as a CSP Miata I tuned the year before. Not huge power @ 132/117, but the intake is pretty much stock and probably a little restrictive. He's happy with the low end tq so we will not make huge changes in the setup.
Probably bump it to MS3 sometime next year after some exhaust and intake improvements.
