Please do this for the laughs. Go buy those spinner beanies(can't remember the name), cut them off and put them on your center caps. So ludicrous to see a 2871 turbo'd MSM scoot around the track with little blue and red spinners going wild.

You could turn your car into an ironic badass. Funky on the outside and amazing internals. Just imagine how pissed people would get being passed by you.

This.... This is a pretty good idea.

And connect batter LEDs to the spinning portion. Who needs ground effects honestly!

The big question is, if I angle the propellers slightly will they produce downforce or lift?

Jeffbucc 09-25-2014 03:26 PM

Best purchase I made INA long time was the leather bound collector series. I grew up on C&H. It was and is the best thing including The Far Side comics.

revlimiter 09-25-2014 05:30 PM

I have the same collection. Love it. It resides by my bedside almost permanently.

Spent the weekend hanging out with my niece and sister so I haven't gotten a lot done on the radiator cowling. I'm 50% done with it right now. Just need to:

-Enclose the sides
-Cut the plastic on the rear and bend the tabs to meet up with the fan mounts on the radiator
-Rivet the areas I plastic welded

Pinched area on the bottom is to add a little rigidity. Fit is almost too perfect, it is pretty hard to pop on and off. The good thing is that you won't ever have to remove it since I will be making the skid plate/bottom tray separate so if you need to get to the engine bay you won't have to remove the radiator cowling at all.

Looks a little rough at the moment but there is literally no where for the air to go but through through intercooler and radiator.

I really like that Jeff.

I think I'll go ahead and order up a FAB intercooler (machine shop is finally working on the Silver car engine!). When will my IC/Radiator ducting be ready? LOL.

Filipe Dias 09-30-2014 12:31 PM

I use ductape, you use some kind of awsome material. Thatīs not fair, you win sir ;);)

Great work !

For you, I'd make one. I am using this one on my car since it was my "learning piece". Yeah, you won't ever see it, so superficialities need not apply, but I learned how to make it faster and involving way less labor. I bent things/welding the plastic in the wrong order making it more labor intensive than it should have been.

Revlimiter gets the second one, since I want to make sure he is getting a nice clean, no ugly bends/messy welded plastic, radiator cowling. It's amazing how many little tricks and techniques you learn by doing this once. I'm glad I decided to assault this project again, it taught me a lot.

(Really though let me know if you want one. I should have enough plastic to do a third as long as you don't want an under-tray as well)

Dude I'd need to go to some shop that has a 3d scanner. That is the only way if you'd be able to properly recreate this. So many angles and variances in length.

I'd love to give you some measurements, but I don't think it translate well.

I am contemplating figuring out how to make a vacuum form of it though. That is mostly deducing how I would do it, rather than I will do it. In my minds eye I'd have to make it a 3 piece mold. There is no way to make a one piece, unless I carved it out of foam into a positive mold, and then used the plastic to make the negative. I'd have to make one big ass vacuum molder.

Plus, everyone has their radiator in a different place, some have AC still, different piping for intercooler. Just too much damn variance. Unless this forced everyone to buy a FAB9 intercooler from Bryan...which I'd be ok with since the intercooler is amazing.

Wow. That's really generous. Thanks.

My configuration is different though. My radiator is still in the OEM location (I remember that you moved yours slightly) and the Silver car is a DD that has to keep functional AC. So, basically, I'll take inspiration from this. I've got a bunch of that plastic sheet myself to play with. Need to get a plastic welder from HF too (should come in handy given our propensity to nail coyotes and jackrabbits).

I love these build threads. Much cross-pollination of ideas. Our cars ROCK!

No worries you've helped me out a lot over the course of this build man!

I too like cross-polination...:giggle:

OK I got the cowling all finished up and the bumper back on and I was going to upload some photos but some family friends came over and I haven't had the time to.

What I did find out after doing a bunch of autotuning to ensure I didn't have any lean areas, is that I have a weird sputtering issue when I am in high boost.
-It isn't overboost protection, since I'm only hitting a max of 270kpa(280 is my OB limit).
-It isn't spark plug blowout either, I pulled the plugs and they looked peachy @.36 gap.
-It isn't showing a lean situation with classic spark blowout/overboost activation. Instead it hits around 10+/- AFR.

Is this an OEM FPR overload issue in conjunction with the new injectors and 255 pump? It feel like really fast stuttering/sputtering hiccuping. It isn't a harsh interruption in power, just a soft interruption in acceleration, but it noticeably affects power until I lightly press the accelerator to slowly accelerate. Anything full WOT causes the situation.

Brian at Fab9Tuning provided me with a Fuelab 515 AFPR &FPR gauge(Thanks again!), which I haven't had a chance to install yet. So after installing I'm hoping it takes care of the issue.

My only thought could be Accel Enrich settings, but my logs are not showing Accel Enrich activating in the problematic areas.
