Hooray nothing exploded on startup. But I do need a new battery. even after sitting on a tender for 2 months it only had 8 volts and wouldn't turn the motor over. Borrowed the battery from my VW and primed for oil pressure and we it started right up.

My CAS alignment must be off though because the engine is really sluggish a coughs for a second on a little throttle input. Need to get a timing light on it to see if maybe I'm off a tooth but at TDC it aligns properly.

Also there is a tiny amount of side to side movement in the timing belt, like 1mm at most, no damper wobble. should I be concerned? Everything torqued properly.

Lol, that gauge has never worked properly, not sure why I have it up on the main screen.

Noise in question. Coming from around the rear of the head. Definitely not the injectors. Running on all 4 cylinders just fine, pulling connector on coils shows that. I'm wondering if supertech with double light springs is just inherently louder and it is all in my head.

Sounds like a single cylinder exhaust leak to me

I wouldn't worry. My supertech engine makes a ton of noise too.

Hmmm guess that is my fault for reusing the exhaust manifold gasket, I figured I could reuse it since it only had 500 miles on it, guess not!

Good to know thanks man. I'm such a nervous bitch about stuff like this, ugh.

In other news, Miata batteries are adorable compared to full size. Was a little hesitant buying a L.A.P.S. battery but Adam(Revlimiter) threw one in both his Miata so I'm not worried too much. Plus it is an AGM rather than flooded. Also my battery terminals on the old one looked like someone took a grinder to them so my cables wouldn't tight down as tight as I'd like them to.

That's a great battery. I think you'll be happy with it. Both of mine are still going strong.

Houston we have lift off....After I reset the timing belt once again. Some how it slipped on the crankshaft cog and was way off timing AFTER I hit it with a timing light.

So I removed it and popped some cardboard shims under the belt so it would be positively engaged with the teeth, reset the cam wheel positions, checked play in between cams(perfect 9-11mm) and started her up and she purred....kinda. After burping the radiator with 4 thermostat cycles to get the bubbles out I took it for a spin.

My idle parameters are all sorts of fucky. No idle recovery after throttle input, but I was able to get it good enough to take it down the highway to see if any problems cropped up. Gotta love that TSE radiator. 110º and with no radiator cowling or bottom tray on it held 206º even sitting at a stop light, god bless yah Andrew!

I had meth programmed to engage at 2 psi since I didn't want to get into boost with how hot it is and how badly the tune needs tweaking, but it engaged just fine and the intake temps dropped like a rock. Pretty cool to see on the gauges.

So now I just need to wait for my tuner to get back from Pikes Peak(he is crew chief for Danny George with a nutso Time Attack NC Miata).

Where is your IAT and where are you injecting meth that you are seeing a drop in intake temps? Still pretty damn cool, glad it running!

Woops sorry I was in a rush and didn't explain that correctly. I have a $400(retail) thermocouple that I use in my bakery and I connected it to a vacuum line on the manifold to see my temp change. It has a super fast and accurate response. Injector is in my 90° elbow before the throttle body. AIT is on the cold side intercooler

Wow, I really really have missed driving this car. Just running off wastegate for now until I have time to get it tuned. 7 PSI still makes me grin though.

Does anyone happen to know the size of the alternator pulley nut? I can't find any info on the size/thread pitch on that sucker. Thought I had torqued it down but it seems to have ejected itself from the car at some point. I know it is an M24 but don't have my thread pitch measurement tool on me.

How did you do that? I thought it was self tightening. Or does it spin the wrong way?

You can have the nut off our spare alternator, if it comes down to that.
