Scroll up.... block was done November of last year. Been waiting on the head since/
|
did you block me on spacebookz?
|
Thinking about picking up a VVT head to run in the meantime or forever if I can make the powa I want with it.
Any gotchas with running a VVT head on a 99 block? I believe I will need the NB2/VVT head gasket... anything else to watch out for? Also, I have the standard BE oil pump gears, I think they recommend a higher flowing model for those with VVT heads? |
The combustion chamber and intake/exhaust ports are dimensionally identical to the 99 head. Only issue I know of is like you said, the head gasket and oil pump.
I take it all is not well in love and paradise. Keep us informed. |
everything i've read says you still want to keep your 99-00 head gasket and use the vvt head if your're still going to use the coolant reroute you already have

use the 99-00 hg with a proper coolant re-route
figure out how you will control vvt. do not just leave it unplugged, that's stupid. yes you will need the vvt oil pump yes that head will work with that block yes it will make 400whp with enough boost, but don't spin it past 7400 yes you should do it  |

it almost makes me mad how you're letting that dude screw you around like that....I mean seriously: over a year? that's just pathetic. I'd raise such a ruckus he would have no choice but to respond
I dunno if you're still deployed or what, but plane tickets to wherever his shop is at are like $300 or something. I'm just sayin, lol |
Cpolly and I just dicked around for 6 hours figuring out the wiring and set up of that VVTuner... I would use that for now- MS3 possibly later down the line.
With a Honda intake mani and the x2867, I think 350-400 shouldn't be too difficult at all- maybe this is the best route for me anyways (more mid range, power under da curve). Emailing BE right now about the status/wait time for a Street/Strip pump. Need to do some emailing about some heads..... will keep you all posted! Also, not sure if I mentioned it earlier but I have a set of cryo treated 3.636 gears sitting at home as well read to be put on this lifeless slug that has been taking up space in my garage. Thanks guys for the info/confirmations! |
I stopped by there not too long ago. Long story short he's making progress it's just super slow. He started boring out one of the lifter bores, but his cutter would not reach quite deep enough, and is now waiting to get a longer/deeper/whatever one in. I will post up more info laters for sure once I figure out my plan of action here.

VVT head and tuner are here. NOW, I just need the rest of my engine and wait for this BE Street/strip pump to come in (currently have the street pump).
herro herro https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1376081330 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1376081330 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1376081330 |
Looks like they stiffed me the oil hard line on the valve cover. Anyone catch anything else?

cam sensor
|
Cool, thanks. Got it from a salvage yard (same place I got my 6 speed from coincidentally). Told them I wanted the head "ready to bolt on" more or less- hopefully they still have this stuff and will send it out soon.
|
its probably the same one as on the front of your 99-00 valve cover, but why not have them give you the one that came with this engine too.
|
you're the only one with a gtx equiv to the 2871. Ive been waiting so hard for you to dyno this ish.
|
I predict first dyno run Fall 2014.
|
Looking into the cam sensor ordeal. Guy said he probably still has the oil line. It's a salvage yard, pretty sure they had already pulled the cam sensor and sold it, lol.
|
progress!
|
BE street/strip oil pump has been shipped and has a scheduled delivery for Monday! If I can get the bottom end of my block back next week, I think realistically it may be possible to be back on the road in a week or so. Pretty much confirmed my original cam sensor will work, I just need that VVT valvecover oil hardline and I should have all parts needed to make this work....woot woot!!!
