haha. pat says your a B and need to up it.

but seriously, this car has so much left in it. its time for 15psi on the street.

aidandj 06-05-2017 09:08 PM

I have. No reason to push past that without a dyno.

I remember when I ran 30lbs of boost.

Did you miss this?

Highest EGT on the street i've seen was like 1250. Even at 15+psi.

Track I'm seeing 1450 at 5-7psi.

Great data point for track driving. Street/drag is just a different world. Even at 5psi, throw the keys to Eddie and he'll break shit in 3-4 laps.

aidandj 06-06-2017 12:21 AM

I'm pretty solid at breaking shit myself.

Found a pair of 800lb front springs. Still hunting for 500lb rears. These vr1s seem to have more grip than the rs3s I had before.

I'd like to get a bit more out of the car before I turn up the power. Maybe catch up to @stormin'norman with a 1:28.* Or something

Lexzar 06-06-2017 02:35 AM

Just wanted to ask about your opinion on the vr1 as a street tire with good power (lots more than I'll have for a while)

DNMakinson 06-06-2017 05:58 AM

Just now got to my tune. Yeah, quite retarded. Especially at high RPM's. Disclaimer: I have no Det cans. That said, I went to a map that keeps increasing advance from 4000 up to 7500, and found that I could pull fuel up there, using pulls (not steady loading). It will be very interesting how your map looks after dyno. I am guessing you will add timing and then need to retouch fuel.

EDIT: I looked at log. You are also running super rich up there. IIRC, 11.5 target, 10.4 actual.

aidandj 06-06-2017 08:49 AM

245 vr1 has more straightline grip that a 225 rs3. That's all I really know right now.

Yes I'm running very rich. Helps with egts, keeps knock away, and again, I haven't had time to go to the dyno.

DNMakinson 06-06-2017 12:18 PM

I'm thinking that the low advance coupled with rich mixture is helping with knock, but increasing the EGT. That's all I'm saying. Theory is that some of the mixture is burning in the manifold. Looking forward to dyno results.

aidandj 06-06-2017 12:21 PM

Rich is probably helping with EGT. Lean burns hotter.

I'm not surprised at all about the high EGTs. They are expected with a map this retarded.

I bet if I pulled fuel the EGTs would go up.

nbfather 06-06-2017 04:49 PM

That is some serious torque to MPH so quickly!
Any thoughts on when you will be getting it on a dyno?

The EGTs on that 25 PSI run must have been up there with your current timing?
Nice to have that information isn't it!!??
I am always blown away when I see a turbo car without an EGT gauge....IMHO literally running blind.

The car is a beast aidandj !

aidandj 06-06-2017 05:06 PM

I need to get VVT fixed before I hit the dyno. EGTs aren't horrible on single pulls. Its the long continuous pulls that really hurt.

I have a warning set at 1600*F, and I've never hit it.

sixshooter 06-06-2017 06:19 PM

Oil vapor causes detonation. I'm glad you aren't being risky.

lol you know how I know you're old?

Padlock 06-07-2017 12:02 AM

ignorance is bliss

you dont need a boost gauge either if you have big enough balls :dealwithit:

You aren't going to stare at a boost gauge while on track -- they're really tuning tools, not driving tools. Given that context, no, an analog boost gauge isn't particularly useful, the MAP sensor in the ECU (being displayed on your laptop in TunerStudio while tuning) is actually a lot better..

Personally I've found that gauges are useless for me on track. Warning lights only.

What do you actually use a boost gauge for?
