the new thing must be to buy the bad, grab the goods, and have curly cut it up.

aidandj 05-15-2015 10:33 PM

Naw, I won't bother curly with this one. I've got a sawzall :)

That auction car is an '01 SE, hence the BRG. It would have the 6 speed and 3.9 unless that's been swapped by a PO.

Curious to see how much it goes for.

No idea why, it doesn't show up when I do a wastegate run but it needs it in closed loop. I'll post up my bias duty table in a bit.

curly 05-19-2015 06:51 PM

That is strange, did we tune the same thing on the dyno with open loop? Aka: higher duty at that RPM?

Nope but its pretty much required if I want flat boost. Also the boost is smoother now than it was on they dyno I believe.

Here is our most powerful dyno pull:

Attachment 237764

Peaked at 200ish, then dropped to 187 at around 5250 rpm. Right where that spike of duty is needed.

What the shit dude!? No more truck project? My life is over!

(Melodrama caused by beer coming to a mailbox near you soon.)

aidandj 05-20-2015 10:37 PM

The house we were going to move into got vandalized a second time and they are taking it off the market. It had a big driveway/yard and tons of room and no neighbors. Truck project will happen, just not as soon as I wanted it.

what happened?

ScottyP3821 05-22-2015 01:45 PM

Upgrading the diff bushings?? What ever you do don't burn them. It doesn't work as well as people claim.

deezums 05-22-2015 01:50 PM

I was able to use a punch and hammer to beat mine out of the housing, but don't you have to burn them off the lower mounts?

ScottyP3821 05-22-2015 01:52 PM

Maybe for poly mounts. I used delrin from garagestar and they say you leave the lower alone.

There's your problem: You didn't actually replace all the bushing parts. That metal bit with the bits of rubber glued to it... those rubber bits are not real firm. Need to remove (via fire = the easy way) and replace with a firmer material.

Upper, lower, it's all confusing. You burn it off the pictured piece. Some say you can just heat it up and loosen the bond between the metal and rubber... I found it was nearly impossible to keep it from catching on fire. I set up a fan to make sure I was upwind of the burning rubber and just let it burn, then cleaned up the metal afterwards with a wire wheel. Had to torch a few more small bits as well. Easy peasy.

Yes diff mounts. And holy fuck they are stuck. All the rubber is burned out and I have them peeling off the housing. But they are rusted inside there. My 1.6 mounts were no where near as hard to get out as these.

I only have garagestar for now, I will make my own lower mounts at some point.

Here's where I'm at right now.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1432319667
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1432319667
