Apparently they are unobtanium. Got a set on backorder.

Anyone need some HX bearings?

Nay, proper installation involves measuring bolt stretch in many cases. Not worth saving $80 or whatever they are.

But bolt stretch != bolt yield

From Ian

Technically, in order to reuse rodbolts you need to have the measurements from before they were torqued, so that you can re-measure them and determine if they've stretched beyond their elastic limit. I think machine shops will usually give you the measurements when they assemble a motor for you (dunno, I've done it myself the two times I've build bottom ends), so you might ask the PO if he's got a set of measurements.

If not, then you're taking a risk by reusing them. I think rodbolt failures are usually due to tensile loading rather than compressive loading, and detonation is more about compression, so that would argue that as long as they were torqued properly (ideally with a rodboltstretch gauge, not a torque wrench) they should be fine.
I used his rod bolt stretch gauge last time (Can i borrow that@codrus ?)

I swear i wrote down the numbers...

The stretch gauge I have is relative (it uses a dial indicator), not absolute, so you can't use it to check for plastic deformation of the bolt during service. You need a micrometer for that.

I'll have to see if I can find the stretch gauge -- it should be in my toolbox, but I loaned it to someone else a year or so ago and I don't remember if I ever got it back. I'm currently at Thunderhill, email/IM/whatever me next week to remind me to check when I get home?

I wouldn’t personally run the race bearings. I run OE rods and Mahle mains. proven over many years by John Mann, and by my own oil analysis. that being said, I may have a set of STD ACL race bearings from John Mann’s spares, now owned by Martin, I can check when I get home.

I think he needs the standards, but he had a set of HX on the shelf

Yes, I have a set of 5M8353H-STD. Let me chat with Martin, see how much he wants for them.
