Its an 87 with a California smog legal B6T, VJ20, Clutchmasters pressure plate with OEM GTX disc, Capri XR2 brakes (10.2" w 22V calipers+rear disc) G-Series trans with 626 V6 5th, HKS everything (formerly FCON/GCC) on MSnS on a MS1-V3. Low miles too, only 293,000! Still need to make the MS work better, get away from the OE intercooler (it works okay since its just a street car) and come up with the AWD fitment stuff. I have a GTX shell I'll be pulling the center bearing and shifter metal off, so if you need any OE metal cutoffs, please let me know

Default Update, kinda

No updates recently, despite the fact I’ve done a ton, for two reasons:

1) after a little slowdown from Covid, I now am busier than I’ve been since I opened this shop.

and

2) I was screwed by a member here for a big nose B6. I’m not sure it’s worth going into all the details of, but a member who was recommended to me took my money, made a lot of excuses, and has now vanished. I had really hoped that they were just going through a rough patch, but that appears to no longer be the case. So, it’s made me a lot less enthusiastic about the forums. First time I’ve been really taken online. Weird.

So, I’m still looking for a big nose crank.

And I’ll do an update soon, promise.

teaser:

Well, that's shitty :/ Any chance for a credit card dispute? I had to recently do one with a junkyard that was being ********* and lied about what they were sending me.

Always take a glance over to see what's parked outside your shop when I pass it on 12th to drop my kids off at daycare. Sorry you got ghosted. :(

As in this thread?

I placed a wtb ad for a big nose crank here.

A forum member told me that another member had what I was looking for for sale, and had an ad up. The referring member is beyond reproach.

The member with the ad was Rollvix3, and I was given his email which I used to contact him.
He agreed to ship the entire short block-as he was reluctant to pull just the crankshaft-for $255. He provided timely responses, and was easy to deal with. He was clearly in need of money, and since I’ve had such great luck on this and other forums I immediately paid him by PayPal friends and family to the address he provided.

This was my mistake.

He then claimed that the PP address was his daughter in law, and he couldn’t access it because it was “locked”. He wanted me to cancel the payment which I could not do without risking my account, and I use it for business. Mind you, he knew I was going to send it FaF.

Then it was ok I’ll figure it out. And then it was I promise I’ll ship. And then it was a sorry I’m not communicating. And now it’s been a month with no communication at all.

I have copies of all the emails and pms.

Initial contact was made on 5/23.
Deal was agreed upon on 5/30 and payment was made the same day.
Last contact from him was 6/10 when he apologized for being quiet. I have sent 5 emails since then.
This was my last email:

Hi Vince,

I am beginning to suspect that I will never see either that crankshaft or my money again. This makes me sad, as I think I have been very understanding and patient. I guess I’ll give it seven more days before I make threads about this on every car site, as there is no way I’m getting my money back from PayPal.

If you could give me updates regularly, I’d bet a lot less unhappy about this, but that apparently is not going to happen.

So, this is my last attempt to contact you. Next Sunday I will consider you to have scammed me.
And here we are.

A 1.6 crankshaft should be free in most reasonable parts of the world. If I had one I would ship it to you for free just because it would be a nice thing to do. Maybe somebody on here that is a decent person would send you one for the cost of freight.

This is a common scam happening across forums right now.

"Email xyz person as they have the part you're looking for"

Interesting. It was the correct email address for the MT member, and I emailed off of the ad, so I’m not sure I’m comfortable throwing the (very respectable) member who sent me the info under the bus. Especially as they have been extremely pleasant and helpful.

Edit:
And there was some negotiation, and none of the classic “I’ve got what you want pay me NOW” I see in scams.
Meaning that if this was a targeted scam, they put in a lot of work for $255.

Thank you. I’ll happily trade two or three of the tons of short nose cranks I have for a big nose.

it’s been a production to find one. I’m willing to spend a decent amount of money, obviously.

I feel really sorry for you.
Maybe for your information: these cranks are basically scrap value in Europe. We got the B6 in the MX-5 all the way till 2005.
You will probably not find the cranks, since most people in Europe just swap the whole engine.
I would be surprised if a breaker would ask more than ~100 dollar for such a crank.
I do not have such a crank at hand, since I avoid all B6 stuff, but if I would have had a crank it would have been yours for the shipping cost.
I have been dealing with a few breakers from the UK recently, but I do not want to make public recommendations. Send me a PM if you want their contact details.

Oh man, sucks that you got scammed. I got 2 emails when I posted a WTB for a bp4w valve cover, both were formatted very similarly "$name in $state has one for sale, email him at : $email_address". I just ignored them, because I had other offers.

I hope you find yourself a crank! I'm sure someone has one lying around that could hook you up!

So, time for an update!

The BFMR has been great except I finally lost my patience with the crap wiring and management from a previous owner. So, this is happening:

This the fantastic wiring in the car before:

I'm taking the opportunity to build a new turbo manifold at the same time, as well as a rebored TB from Maxbore, and a general clean up of all the vacuum hoses:

And here's your weight for a GTX:

The wife's NA8 with the EUDM VVT/6MT dap has been close to flawless, with just an occasional hot start and idle hiccup and a leaky thermostat housing in about a year and a half.

The FC3S is getting a respray in Sunburst Yellow, a new rear spoiler for RE Amemiya, and a ported, 10k rpm 13B and Adaptronic. I figure that will be about another 12 months to complete...

And because I missed the track, I bought this to hold me over, thanks to another member here:

Here’s the Maxbore throttle body, from 50mm to 54mm:

The intake manifold came from a machine shop that has vapor blasting equipment… and they blasted it with aluminum oxide. So I have a huge amount of corrective work to take, and they’re basically unobtainable. I have to hone the mounting flanges smooth, ream the injector pockets, and get it painted or powder coated as opposed to shiny natural. I’m pretty steamed.

No pictures of that carnage.

And in case anyone wonders, here is the weight for an NC, 6MT, roll bar, racing hard top, Ohlins, front Progress bar, no rear bar, interior behind seats gone, 17x9 Enkei PF05, 245/40 Nexen Sur4G. All stock exhaust and drivetrain.

Super stoked to see an update here, thanks! The GTX is a little lighter than I thought, which is awesome!

Any interest in selling the old turbo manifold? Is it stock location? And what's wrong with it?

Good choice on the NC. I track my turbo miata with my buddies 09 NC, and the NC is super capable even under stock power. Enjoy!

Man, hadn't seen this thread before. Great read, except for the shitty part from last year about the crank.

Crazy the amazing info that pops up on this forum, and the quality of people it attracts.
