You should *try* retaining the ppf.
Using cross braces shouldn't be too hard since everyone swapping our cars pretty much does that. If you can figure out how to retain the ppf do it. If not, no worries.

C

The oil pickup Does come from the front, being it is originally a front sump design. Should be done with the tube soon.

As far as the ppf, do you guys think I'll actually feel a loss in "character" of the car without it? I will be doing some racing with it on the side, but it'll be my dd otherwise.

In with the new

Almost there

And it's in!

It still had the stock mounts hangin up on the subframe, but there will be no need to cut the hood. Motor mount locations are very close, so that should be a piece of cake.

Now maybe you Guys can help me out with this one; I af one point saw a photo of a diff "hanger" since there will be no ppf.. I believe it was a fe3 swap thread. I just need to look at that pic again.

Anyways, updates soon

What are you doing for ECU?

I'll be running the stock ecu at first, and leave it at 12-14lbs. After that I'm not sure yet, but it'll be standalone. I'll be putting in a better diff, roll bar, and 6uls before that though... Priorities priorities..

My boner went soft when I saw the abomination you are swapping that motor into.

I truly hope you pull it later and swap it into something that doesn't look like its a heap of shit or at least re-paint the whole car including bay and "clean" it up a bunch.

Otherwise good progress

My priorities are to go fast before looking good, but i will be "cleaning" up the bay, then painting it flat black

Made a little progress last night:

Attachment 192032

The engine is now sitting in it's final location, and everything clears very well, including the hood. I am simply using shims under the oilpan to simulate the necissary clearance. There is also nothing protruding below the subframe, which is great, and my shifter still sits in it's original hole, just an inch back.
Next step is the motor, tranny, and diff mounts!

shlammed 12-23-2010 09:40 AM

Please don't paint it flat black.

WonTon 12-23-2010 10:19 AM

nothing wrong with flat black as long as its done right!

curly 12-23-2010 10:48 AM

FYI, I love flat black. My motorcycle is ALL flat black.

Another FYI, I've stayed away from a flat black interior or engine bay because of heat absorbent reasons. If you're not planning on tracking it or you're not in a terribly hot climate, you probably don't have to worry about it. But keep it in mind.

Splitime 12-23-2010 10:55 AM

I'd suggest a gray gloss, allows easier cleanup later and easier leak spotting. Can use one of the industrial brush on extra strong paints.

What's wrong with a flat black engine bay?

I like that idea, I might just do that. Thank you.
