what is UP fam?! Got some updates…

I’ll start with the big one: new turbo
I went with the Pulsar GTX3067 Gen2. It’s a 2867 with a T3 turbine wheel and a .63ar T3 flanged turbine housing.

The new turbo is 1mm smaller overall with a 3mm smaller inducer diameter.

This thing hits 22psi a full 1000rpm sooner than the ancient eBay turbo I was running.

Unfortunately, because of that faster spool I am now literally spinning 5th gear at 80mph on my 3 month old 245/40/15 Hankook RS4’s. Rolling on throttle in 5th gear at 80mph, turbo spools fully at 50% throttle and blows tires off. I did a hard acceleration pull and completely roasted 1-4 before I stopped. Mind you this is at night when it’s 65° outside. If it was 90° and the road was warm, I may be able to hook 4th. We’ll see.

Oh and one last thing: I’m building another engine to put into this car. The current engine just has Manley rods and ACL bearings and is otherwise completey stock, running E85. New engine has JE pistons, ARP head/main studs, Mazworx billet mains. Haven’t bought/decided on rods yet, prob go with Manley again.

Oh yeah, and I got a dragy for my birthday last month. I managed to get a couple pulls done on the old turbo for comparison. Haven’t done any on the new one yet, so here’s the old numbers.

0-60 = 5.36s (with the worst launch ever and zero traction in 2nd gear)

100-200km/h = 8.96s

I only did one 0-60 run, but I did two 100-200 runs. 8.96s and 9.07s. I think if I do it on a warm day and I get my tires to hook in 5th, I can drop a half second at least on the 100-200. The 0-60 I could be 3.5s with the right tires and suspension and EBC tuning

Turbo looks sweet!

You will really enjoy that dragy. Its a great tool for road tuning. Your gonna need to get traction sorted first though in order to get repeatable data. You can configure it to measure from any speed to any speed for road tuning various changes. I do think youll find it a LOT more difficult than you anticipate to get that 0-60 time down to the 3.5 second range, especially with a stick shift car. However the dragy will definitely help you eventually get to that point.

Have you considered the nitto555r2 drag radials? Thats what I generally run for the street and am happy with them overall. They have decent traction while seeming to last a little longer than some other street/drag type tires I've tried.

You get that misfire sorted?

Yeah I’m definitely looking into other tires. I want to buy a whole nother set of wheels, prob Konig Dekagram 15x10 and was looking at either AR-1 or R888, but I’ll check into the Nitto’s. I’ll be able to tune EBC and do boost-by-gear or wheel speed on the new speedyefi fishdog kit when I get around to installing that. This car is still currently my daily driver, “get me to work everyday” car and rewiring the engine harness with less than 1 day of down time is going to be tricky but I think I can do it.

It does seem I got the misfire sorted. TunerStudio does still die when I go into boost and even sometimes randomly just idling or cruising. It just goes offline, as if I unplugged the usb cable. And I have to go into the communications tab and test the port again and accept for it to reconnect. Sometimes the car dies when that happens and won’t start back up unless I unplug the laptop and wait a couple seconds. But if I don’t have the laptop plugged in the car runs like a champ, no issues. Going to try a friends laptop and if that solves the issue I’ll pick up a new laptop tomorrow

Very good times!

Are you still blowing the tires off in 5th, starting at like 50mph or so? Edit: What gears did you measure 100-200?

As you may know, I have a 2860gen2 at ~20-22psi (still OLBC) and my car hooks in 4th with nearly new 205/50/15 Federal 595RS-Pro's, when it's 65° out there. Never spun 5th.
Third is different story... 3.63 rear end.

I want a dragy so bad, I think I'll order one NOW

Yeah I’ve got the 6 speed paired to a 4.1 for now. So my 5th is probably closer to your 4th. The 100-200kph run was 5th and 6th gear, with the car almost at redline in 6th gear to finish the pull. I’m riding on blown raceland primos right now so I’m sure that’s contributing to my lack of grip. I just bought a set of Fortune Autos so that should help a lot with grip (and comfort) but yeah I easily spin 4th when the turbo spools. Sometimes I feel that 6th is going to spin when boost hits. These RS4’s were way more grippy when i first got them

I have not been this excited about any other mod. Not even for the new turbo. This has completely transformed this car and I beyond satisfied with these Fortune Auto 500’s. This car is enjoyable to drive now.

(P.S. I spent a year straight up BATTLING oil leaks on the built engine. Every week or two I would be under the car resealing something, RTV’ing something, Teflon-taping something, etc. After a year I’ve finally fixed all the oil leaks. So now I’m going to hit my garage floor with a badass commercial surface cleaner)

installed new tie rods, 5Xracing rack spacers and some P2M RUCA and got a fresh alignment. No more -2.5° camber, noticeably more grip in 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Before I could spin 4th, now it barely spins 4th and 2 & 3 are way more gripped up while spinning

Beat my last 100-200kph by about 0.75 and the car was breaking up pretty bad at WOT. Laptop is broken so not sure why. AFT solid per the gauge and everything appears normal from my end. Working on getting a new laptop
