Do you plan to test the stock IM and then this one separately?

shlammed 03-31-2011 06:40 PM

Prob not.

Would require two tunes and two cold pipes.

Not willing to pay for that right now.

astroboy 03-31-2011 11:28 PM

I think if you did and showed there are significant gains with your manifold you would be able to sell maaaany more units than without.

Have you settled on a runner length yet?

Gotpsi? 04-01-2011 02:18 PM

You dont need both dynos, an intake will prove its self with its torque and HP curves not dropping off like the stocker as long as its done correctly. He will have a much healthier setup, its really just math. Every intake I have built has been one off, not one of them the same so I never bothered to dyno them and everyone is very happy with their gains, with no report of any loss in low end torque thus far. Good luck man keep the pics coming.

Also picked up the intercooler pipes.... 3" cold, 2.5" hot.

You're not going to have issues with the fuel lines and other hardware on that side? Looks awful close to me...

Braineack 04-06-2011 05:44 PM

http://www.boostedmiata.com/gallery2...2/DSC_0008.JPG

it fits.

but this is why I designed mine with 45° bends.

shlammed 04-06-2011 05:49 PM

wont clear my brake propo valve... will have to redo that line.

Fuel lines are a joke. just bend them with a proper tool.

As far as the 45's.... mine is setup with a ~15-20 degree cut (didnt measure angle) at the head flange... and as you can see in the picture there is very minimal porting of the head flange needed.

This allows my runners to not be right in the frame rail like they would if they came straight off the head.

Braineack 04-06-2011 06:16 PM

I didnt notice the RHD...

that's 7" from tip to tip, including flange and trumpets?

IIRC the pictured is 9"

shlammed 04-06-2011 06:25 PM

that 7" doesnt include the head flange and half of the trumpet within the calcs and it is very very close to that irl. I am ~0.02 off of my design calculations.

This car should have AMAZING power from 3000/3500-redline (7500rpm) depending how fast the turbo comes on. below that i will still always be making more than peak HP of a stock miata.

Gotpsi? 04-09-2011 01:48 AM

Your taking your measurements from the valve right? not just the length of the runner tube. If not your calculations are wrong, just fyi. You should me measuring velocity stack or trumpet + runner + flange + head runner length center line to valve.

Your welds? Nice very nice

jtothawhat 04-18-2011 10:34 PM

Looking good, any reason you are routing your intercooler piping like that? Do you have P/S or A/C still?

shlammed 04-19-2011 08:36 AM

thanks!

Yes, my welds. Yes power steering. limits the space to be had between the frame rail. so being that my last year setup was similar, the spot was already cut for this.

There should be no huge restriction within the charge piping now and i should be able to get north of 350 on pump when i install the pistons and rods.

Im also excited for this new gas lense kit.... allows me to get no brown haze off the stainless weld and keep the filler in the sheilding (and still see it)!

More good looking welds, and an interesting routing of the charge pipe. For some reason I keep thinking bad things will happen to it but it is highly unlikely.

How are you handling the ewg exhaust, screamer pipe?

shlammed 04-19-2011 04:27 PM

bad things will happen how so?

i ran it like that all of last year! I will be building a mount for it to keep it from vibrating though.

EWG is going to be plumbed down to a slash cut at the bottom of the subframe.

I am not saying that anything will happen but the way it is routed makes my brain think of catastrophe.

shlammed 04-19-2011 07:18 PM

Under normal operating or in an accident?

The metal that I cut out was as thick as the front fender. Hand bendable.
