Default I wanna go fast! - Autox>Track conversion

So I thought I'd put one of these together as I take a relatively sorted street/autox car and ruin it to make a track car. This will be a build thread/record of my track escapades.

Quick history, bought the car in 2009 with 24k miles. Installed the turbo in spring of 2010 at 30k miles. Popped the stock motor in 2013 at an autox. Has 220whp on a dyno dynamics and 75k miles now. I've done a couple track days and now I'm hooked. Plan to iron out some of the weaknesses, then get into at least time trials.

Current mod list (at least most of it):
Engine
1.8 BP VVT
Supertech Pistons (9.5:1)
Manley Rods
Acl bearings
Flyin Miata FM2 with GT2560
Braided stainless coolant lines
Upgraded FM intercooler
Trackspeed oil cooler
6 speed
3.636 torsen
Haltech ECU
FM clutch stage 2

Suspension
Ground Controls on Koni Yellows (~450f/325r)
Racing Beat front bar, stock rear
Power steering delete
Poly bushings
Extended ball joints

Interior
Corbeau FX1 pro seats on custom rails mounted on the floor
Hard Dog Hardcore roll bar
Momo steering wheel on nrg quick release
Miata Roadster shifter

Exterior
Fully ducted radiator/intercooler and oil cooler
Singular motorsports NC hood vents
15x8 6UL with 225 RS4
Hardtop

Some current pictures:

Video from last track day at Putnam Park. The vents kept me cool enough to finally run full boost and set a personal best there.

Nice!

I too made a "change" from autox to track. My once pretty STR car..... isn't quite as pretty as it was before, lol.

What kind of safety do you have besides the seat and rollbar? 4/5/6 pt? Do you have a HANS? This is where I would start investing time/money into next.

You need Xidas and wider wheels though

I've got G-Force 6pts and a Necksgen Rev HNR. Also have nomex gloves and shoes, both Racequip. Shopping for a suit right now, leaning towards the Sparco Jade because I really want Nomex which it doesn't look like the entry level brands have.

New suspension and wheels are on my must have list this winter. 15x10s better come back in stock...

After installing, I couldn't get the G force harnesses out quickly enough. If you dont have *****, they might be ok. There is a reason they are 159 and the others are 400.

Eh, they've been fine for me. My only real complaint is the sub strap adjusters. The way my seats are setup, they are either just above or just below the seat pan. Hard to get that perfect adjustment.

Did a little bit of work on it.

Put a rear towhook on finally. My car has a damaged left rear factory hook from a mishap with a rollback, so the normal options wouldn't work for me. Found this one from Advanced Autosports that fits on the right one.

Also, installed a vent window to help stay cool on track.

So after I put the vent window in, I drove it around a bit with the door panel off and it was nice. A lot more space. Then I thought "well, this is supposed to be a track car now", then it spiraled out of control and now most of my interior is stripped. I stopped short of taking the dash out, mostly because I was too lazy.

Oh yeah! I also picked up a trailer the other day. No more driving to the track.

Cart is still in my parents garage, lol. I’m hoping to be down next weekend, can meet up if you are around?

Exocet has been load testing jackstands for a long time, but is finally ready for tune and alignment.

I actually don't even want the stand anymore. It just popped into my head when I saw your username.

Glad your exocet is finally ready. I feel like you've been building it forever.

Haven't worked on the car lately, but I made a step up in track safety today. Been stalking for good deals on a suit and found one on Amazon Warehouse for $150. Used - "like new" which equated to a brand new suit in a slightly damaged box.
Simpson Crossover. Sfi 3.2a/5 rated, multi layer nomex, arm gussets and a stretch panel. This thing is so much more comfortable than the Racequip I tried on before.

Excellent. I appreciate when people invest in sensible safety gear. That's a good looking suit.

Prepped the car for NCM this weekend. Put new front pads in again. Another set of G-Loc R10s. Only getting a weekend out of them now, but have a plan for more pad life this winter. Didn't want to make compound changes and have to change my rears too just for 1 weekend.

Nice to see more local Miata people coming to the track, I live very close to Putnam, let me know the next time you're up this way.

I also have a stash of XP12/10 brake pads here I can't use if you are interested

Appreciate that, but I'm going to try something other than carbotechs to see what else there is. Isn't much that fits sport calipers, but I'm going to upgrade calipers.

Got the car all ready for NCM today. Brakes bled and bedded.
Mounted a toolbox on my new trailer:

My friend got a bunch of water in his car and ruined his carpet so he asked if he could have mine. So he came over today and took it out. More racecar now:

Unfortunately, it ended up being pretty late when I loaded the car up, so no pictures. Also didn't get to investigate where it scraped getting on the trailer.
