Boy, you guys are good. Yes, the shifter is from a Porsche 914. For reference, all of the air-cooled VWs used a ball-and-socket shifter design, very similar to the one in the Miata transmission, except that the socket part is inside the center frame tunnel rather than the transmission. I think that the 911s used a similar setup, though I won't swear to it.

And no, I'm not building a Porsche 914.

the question is... what uses that shifter and is not rear engine?

I got it! It's an actuating lever that moves the book case that leads to the secret passage to Joe's underground lair. Cleverly disguised as a random shift lever sitting on the counter. You sly devil, you.

Technically speaking that's a transaxle.

I've had a pipe dream for years of building an indycar look-alike one day...

single seat, street legal, hayabusa powerplant - just sayin'

The hard part is figuring out how to get the power to the wheels. I've drawn plans for a chain drive LSD - but that ****'s complicated
