Boy, you guys are good. Yes, the shifter is from a Porsche 914. For reference, all of the air-cooled VWs used a ball-and-socket shifter design, very similar to the one in the Miata transmission, except that the socket part is inside the center frame tunnel rather than the transmission. I think that the 911s used a similar setup, though I won't swear to it.

And no, I'm not building a Porsche 914.

I just put a megasquirt in one of those today. Joe wouldn't fit in one of those, smaller interior than a miata.

I think its part of the monowheel bike he's building. It will be the steering mechanism.

You're not actually building anything. That's just a random picture.

the question is... what uses that shifter and is not rear engine?

I got it! It's an actuating lever that moves the book case that leads to the secret passage to Joe's underground lair. Cleverly disguised as a random shift lever sitting on the counter. You sly devil, you.

Well, 914s do and aren't, but of course I'm not building a 914.

The transmission from one, however, might come in handy.

Of course, these clearly aren't 914 parts...

Technically speaking that's a transaxle.

I've had a pipe dream for years of building an indycar look-alike one day...

single seat, street legal, hayabusa powerplant - just sayin'

The hard part is figuring out how to get the power to the wheels. I've drawn plans for a chain drive LSD - but that ****'s complicated

You know how people sometimes say things like "I would have sex with that car?"

I would honestly like to take that car to a Broadway play, buy it a nice meal, listen to it talk about its feelings, empathize with it, and then cuddle up next to it on the sofa while watching The English Patient and sipping a nice chardonnay.
