in my ever growing laziness, I took my car to Ryan last night (gdnimrod) and let him do the rear main seal replacement. No more leaks! I really wouldnt trust anyone else to work on my car with me not being around outside of Ryan and Phil.

But still... that engine had cast pistons. I think for a street build (street to me = not beating the **** out of it for 30 min. sessions on the track) coated cast pistons would be more reliable when tuned right. Throw a little water injection in there and there is absolutely no reason for the pistons to cause any grief.
But that's just my opinion.... and I'm a backyard mechanic so it means nothing..
I built an R32 GTR a few years ago and used a brand new crate OEM NUR Spec RB26. All it had was forged rods. We put in some ARP rod bolts and put it back together. That engine made 580AWHP on 1.8 bar (26PSI)... mind you it was tuned by a genius (Eric Tsu from XS Engineering).
But still... that engine had cast pistons.

I fail to see how a 2.6 liter inline 6 is in any way relevant to anything on this forum.
It's a 6cyl engine making big turbo power with cast pistons. Making over 700 crank HP (since you can't compare AWHP to RWHP) on a 2.6L inline 6cyl is similar to breaking the 350-400whp mark on a 4cyl. So it's totally relevant.

Ya I guess... and that's why I'm running forged. But a properly tuned engine with quality cast pistons can be just as reliable. But the key to that sentence is "properly tuned."
So what are you going to do when you build a forged engine? Just what seems to be the forum standard... supertechs?

Your example really doesn't apply here: you're talking about a motor with more cylinders, different compression, pretty much different EVERYTHING and making different power levels than our cars and trying to compare.
That's like saying that all inline 4 cylinders can make 1200whp like some DSM's do
