Finished the oil catch can today. I still need to weld the -10AN fittings onto the valve cover.

Thanks, the motor is still at the machine shop waiting on the mains to get line bored. I also have the rear differential out at another shop getting my 3.636:1 R&P installed. I hope to have the car back together and ready to break-in and tune within the next two weeks. There is a HPDE event November 2nd at NOLA Motorsports Park I would really like to make!

Okay, finished welding the -10AN fittings on the valve cover today I enlarged the drivers side port with a 1/2" drill bit. I read through the oil catch can threads and a lot of people seem to have issues with using the passenger side of the valve cover and it sucking excess oil with a catch can. I haven't really seen anyone try to change the inlet of the baffle on the passenger side though so I'm going to give it a go. I welded a plate at the back of the valve cover where the baffle opens up and drilled through the aluminum wall between the center baffle and the passenger side baffle(angled the way that the factory put a hole between the center baffle and the drivers side) hopefully this will at least reduce the amount of oil know to come from the passenger side. I still need to seal up the baffles and repaint the valve cover " BLACK" I can't stand the red!

You can see the hole I drilled between the two baffles. I made it the same way the drivers side originally came.

With a little bit of Aircraft Stripper, elbow grease and a can of VHT Wrinkle Black I think my valve cover looks better then new!

I motor is all ready for reassembly and my rear differential is also finished getting the 3.636:1 R&P Installed and ready to put back under the car.
I will be putting Amsoil MTG GL-4 in the transmission and Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-90 in the differential. I am uncertain wheather I am supposed to add the GM friction modifier in the transmission though.

I used those fluids on my 6sp and torsen and everything still peachy, no issues. Didn't add any other stuff.

That VC looks great. You'll love the 3.6, such a big improvement over the 4.10's

Thanks I'll be sure to skip on the friction modifier. I'm definately excited about the new R&P. I couldn't stand driving on the highway with the 4.10 and first gear is just a bad joke in the mazdaspeed.

Great to see the progress Frank. Envy on the 3.6 diff. Looking forward to see the results.

Well went to put the motor back in last Friday and realized that I had forgot to order new motor mounts and my stock ones were shot. New mazda competition mounts from FM are due to show up this Thursday. Since I had some time on my hands I decided to make an aluminum coolant overflow tank to replace the old plastic one.

Motor mounts come in tomorrow and I hope to god there aren't any other hang ups in this build and I can start breaking in the motor/clutch/EVERYTHING this weekend! FINGERS ARE CROSSED!!!

18psi 10-16-2013 07:05 PM

can looks solid.

good luck dude

Scrappy Jack 10-17-2013 08:52 AM

Looking good. Did you add any sort of provision to monitor coolant level in the overflow (other than unscrewing the cap)?

As of right now no but I'm looking into adding a sight kit on the coolant tank and the oil catch can. I just need to find the right one first.

Well my motor mounts didn't get delivered until 7:40pm last night so I didn't get to start on the install until today. But at least the motor is back in the car now!

I finished off my BEGi coolant reroute by welding a brace to the intake and re-installed the turbo/manifold/downpipe today.

this build is so pimp.
but I do wonder if your crankcase evac setup is adequate for ALLOFIT

I'm not sure either but there's only one way to know.

Also if you guys are wondering about the non braided line running from the oil catch can to the intake it's because it's a temporary line until I decide how I want to reroute my intake(I have one -10 AN weld-on fitting left for the intake side and didn't want to waist it or braided line on a temporary setup)
