Miata Legacy Build
#242
I provided the parts*
This shop also apparently is the sole source machining service for all Datsun Spirit motors.
I dropped some miata parts off for cleaning, and he talked my ear off about all Datsun things (even though he's an old school muscle car guy). Brought me around back, he has 6 L series motors at any time.
He built my block which is still solid after this many years. The head I cop up to janky Supertech products

Yeah the 1700 i was quoted was including parts as well. Ill give them a call and see what it would take to ship my head to them. There has to be a good local shop that isnt horrendously over priced.

So been a while since the last update. Pruned the wiring harness almost all the way to where i wanted it then the TSE built head popped up on here so i sold all my 1.6 turbo stuff to fund that. So now i have a fully built VVT head waiting to go onto the motor. Also picked up a BEGI manifold from Bret Wold (alienmiatata1) to handle things on the cold side. Over the last 2 months I have been waiting for a precision 350hp intercooler that finally showed up from backorder and gets us pretty close to getting this new motor in.
Because 1.6 power sucks i decided to rip the harness out and build a bare bones new harness for the good motor. The new harness will feature an AIM MXS Strada or MXP Strada if i can make it fit. Then everything else will be ran through a Cartek wireless controller and my little bussmann fuse box.
I have also been stripping all the un-necessary weight out of the car because race car.
Also pictures are in no specific order. All the black matting in the car is getting ripped out.
Then for some handling stuff. Over the summer the car has received new front centric hubs paced with redline CV2, SADfab poly bronze retrofit, SADfab rear hubs, extended lower ball joints, NB front subframe swap with a depowered rack, NB2 uppercontrol arms, painted the NA6 lower control arms, and new tie rods that are not R package. Also sold my old tein flex coilovers and bought Ryan Passey's Feal 442 coilovers from Lars (MKturbo/shuiend) which will be a much needed improvement over the old teins.
Up next on the list is actually assembling and finishing the motor and wiring harness and hopefully picking up a 9LR **** over winter.

Sorta a big update so here we go.
Fist I started building a new harness for the car. Pruned the rear harness, added a extra circuit for a diff temp sensor and also did a fuel pump rewire to handle the DW300. Below is the work in progress shot and the finished rear harness.
Finished rear harness
This is the giant pile of wire I removed from the car.
Also picked up Ryan Passey's Feal 442 coilovers to replace the old tein flex coilovers that were in the car.
Then POOF the old 1.6 gets pulled out. This is kinda a step backwards because at this point I already did a NB subframe swap. This will make sense later in the post.
Uber motor looks awesome and is almost all together and ready to make big power.
Also got some Left Lane Designs fender vents from Matt (Padlock)
Tubular subframe installed with all the suspension stuff re-installed and a depowered NB rack. Also a hint to the big things to come with that weird oil pan.
And here is the big news. Ended up selling the UBER BP And ended up getting a K24A2
Tragedy strikes and there is coolant in the oil pan.
No big deal though. New ARP head studs and a headgasket and we are ready to seal it back up. Also have a new timing chain, guides, tensioner and oil pump installed and ready to go.

It's going to a local guy who is also a forum member so as he gets his car together I'll post some updates. He will be running the 7163 twin scroll just like I was going to do, and he will be using the BMW transmission so we should still get a good data point.

Got the motor in, new dash mounted up and my switches mocked up waiting for an overlay to match the paper template in the picture. Next up is finishing the wiring harness on the car. Should actually have a car this summer.

Small photo dump. Rear shock resi's are mounted and making moves on the wiring. IM is on order so once that shows up and I get the fuel sorted I should be ready for a first start. Then I can get the intake and exhaust built.

Nothing relevant just my 1.8 #ALLOFIT 6758 twin scroll motor I originally planned to use but sold and just finished final assembly. I should add that this is mating to a zf5 trans and getreg diff.
