StratoBlue1109 03-19-2014 12:56 AM

Wow. This thread has really taken off. :-)

Glad you're enjoying everything Gerald. I'll spend some more time with the start up stuff when we relocate the IAT sensor. I was thinking it would be a good idea to go back to a stock crank trigger wheel too, just to remove that variable from the equation.

Nice to hear everyone is impressed by your numbers, guess I'm going to have to put mine on the dyno now too since I'm "breaking all the rules." :-)

Keep me posted about that meet coming up. I'm definitely up for hanging out.

Funny story, I tuned a kids 2001 Mustang Cobra today. He was super excited that it made 330 to the wheels. I got in my miata to go grab some dinner and he caught up to me at the light. Turned right and he put the hammer down. I let him get a full car length in front of me, threw it in 3rd and walked right passed him... The look on his face was priceless.

Stopped at the next light and he asked what was done to it. I told him it's just a little EBay turbo, but it's making about the same power as his car. I thought he was going to crap his pants. Lol

BlackBandit 03-19-2014 06:57 AM

I just pictured that scenario in my head. Like you said, you can't beat the quality of a miata and how affordable they are to Rip The road. I wish it was the first thing I did instead of my aesthetics.
And I'll let you know when I get the other items we need the next time we tune it. I'll hunt down for that wheel.

Also I'm installing this racing beat rear canon brace that was painted over. I wish it was still white instead of the midnight blue that came off the 99. Got a fantastic deal picked up for 60 bucks locally. Thank you craigslist.

Priceless
I remember doing that on my '00 and a C6 corvette. And the guy had his girlfriend in the car who he was trying to impress

BlackBandit 03-19-2014 09:21 AM

I got a thumbs up from a stock wrx after I blew by him. I also diminished a frs simply modded as he was anxious to show me what he's got and I blew off my valve and he timidly declined with his tail under his ass.

I'm putting in an order of autokonexions fender flares. Just one small step to a functional setup

nooooo!

IMHO don't, but it's your car and I'm sure you will make it look great anyways. I just love stock bodied miatas.

BlackBandit 03-23-2014 02:08 PM

Your right but it's just so clean looking it needs an edge. I do plan on getting garage varys nb2 bumper in the future. I do like the Bomex most oem looking aftermarket front bumper but those fit nb1 headlights. I also like the auto exe front bumper.

EO2K 03-23-2014 02:25 PM

Autokonexion fastback or GTFO :fawk:

I kinda want one, but I don't have that much surplus cash lying around.

turbofan 03-23-2014 04:19 PM

I agree with fireindc. That was my first thought but decided not to say anything. Its sooo clean as it is, why go mess it up? Lol yes it will look sick but I think your car is perfect visually.

Just my 2 cents.

concealer404 03-23-2014 05:34 PM

Fender flares aren't really a "functional" thing on any street miata. You can fit all the tire that's readily available to you under stock bodywork quite easily.

That said... do what makes you happy. I'm sure you'll make it look great. :)

Tekel 03-23-2014 06:26 PM

Yah, but you can't fit that tire on demon cambers on stock fenders.

concealer404 03-23-2014 08:03 PM

True... are those 7" or 8"?

BlackBandit 03-23-2014 08:22 PM

Exactly my point tekel. I don't want to give them up but the offset isn't functional and I can't put on 225s on. I can get away with 15x8 et. 20 with 225s anything bigger needs flares now AK makes front blisters to widen the fender for a oem look but then what do I do with the rears? Put on flares for the the rears? That looks even more silly then all four flared quarters.

So if I'm selling my wheels I want to have a functional wheel setup. I want to get away with the works that are posted on cr.net specifically the works cro1s

BlackBandit 03-23-2014 08:22 PM

They are 15x7.5-5

BlackBandit 03-25-2014 08:54 AM

I had a vacuum leak at a plastic t-fitting and i didn't know about it until lasts nights Orlandos meet. The tube was connected to i think the ms. So after that I'm going to be purchasing brass t fittings and replace every plastic connector. I have some back ups in the car and learned a bit more. Remember this is my first turbo and fast car.

Some of you said that the 5speed isn't strong enough for the amount of torque i have? I am installing a 6speed from a msm with 110k miles. I have motorcarft oil for it already and new front and rear transmission seals. Of course the speed sensor will be included and I'll ask about the starter because i read they have a different bolt pattern from a 5speed starter.

concealer404 03-25-2014 08:56 AM

Your 5spd should be fine for street use with that power. It's the motor we're worried about. :bowrofl:

BlackBandit 03-25-2014 09:04 AM

Haha the question is when will it happen this year lol. Hopefully after the gap or sometime soon so I can have a built motor by the gap. Wow I'm horrible lol.

I disagree. I think it looks pretty cool. Youthful and maybe a bit immature but not bad IMO.

Ok you win.

RotorNutFD3S 03-28-2014 04:52 PM

Don't know if you're ready to purchase or not, but one of the Atlanta forum members has his basically new Works listed for sale: [For Sale] For Sale: Work Meister CR01 15x9 +20 4x100 Custom Order.

BlackBandit 03-28-2014 04:53 PM

Thank you for the compliments. As for the flares, they will be threaded in the body and the hardware will be anodized black to keep it clean with the body. No chrome hardware.

He is they guy. He's very helpful with this purchase and very patient. I hope he can work with me.

BlackBandit 03-31-2014 06:10 AM

The seller sold the wheels to his roomate. I was giving him a 600 dollar deposit and in two weeks the rest of his payment for the following pay period. After he agreed to it he sold me out . It's hard to find people whose word actually means something nowadays

turbofan 03-31-2014 12:57 PM

Eh, if his roommate was paying the amount in full at that moment it's hard to blame him. Sucks, but he's got to live with the guy.

Just installed the spal fans. This is what they sound like

Spal Fans 99 Miata:

I had to drill new holes for the spal fans to fit on the mishimoto fan shroud. They are a bit smaller.

concealer404 04-18-2014 05:32 PM

Hahahah those fans are fun. I thought the Mishis were loud on our MSM.

Installed the FM Stage 1 kit with the SPAL fans and holy fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

BlackBandit 04-18-2014 09:43 PM

They sound pretty loud. I can't wait to see my temp gauge to see how much of a difference the two are.
I've used also water wetter in past vehicles and have seen a difference in temps. Has anyone else used the additive?

Yes, I'd say the vast majority of us have used it in the past. Every organization ive ever done a track event with has said "no ethylene glycol based anti-freeze in your coolant system" so we end up running distilled water + an additive like "Water Wetter" or Royal Purple's "Purple Ice"

BlackBandit 04-19-2014 11:06 PM

I was wondering how it would affect the turbo itself. I'll look at purple ice now that you've brought it up.

Their site says that for street driven cars to not run a water + additive only. They suggest a antifreeze and a single bottle of purple rain. So I can just add a bottle to my reservoir and call it a day?

BlackBandit 04-22-2014 04:21 PM

Hey, just last night I started hearing a whining noise under load and acceleration. It goes away while coasting or cruising but one I touch the pedal it comes right back. It gets higher pitch as the speed increases.

I got under the car and looked at the axles, shaft, and diff. The axles look fine along with the diff. No leaks. I can turn the axles by hand myself and turn the wheels fine. There is a small tranny leak but nothing alarming.

concealer404 04-22-2014 04:24 PM

I only use water wetter in cooling system that i use no antifreeze in. Otherwise.... MEH.

That's normal noise from the diff after a proper poly diff mount bushing install.

BlackBandit 04-22-2014 05:01 PM

But I didn't hear it before until last night. Some research and suggestions were axles, diff, shaft, tranny, wheel bearing. I highly doubt it's the axles, shaft, and wheel bearing. I just put in fresh fluid in the diff and it seems fine to me. I would say it's the tranny.

Fireindc 04-22-2014 05:06 PM

Well, if you have a 6 speed sitting there, i'd do that first and go from there. 6 speed is tits anyways.

BlackBandit 04-22-2014 05:09 PM

I have one with my name on it from a 04 msm with 110k miles.
But it's not ready to be sold just yet and installed. If the transmission is the cause then I just might be able to get it installed that much faster by the seller. I just hope it's not the differential because I just fixed the axle and mounts.

Any other diagnoses I can perform while the car is up on jacks? Perhaps burnouts lol

What manufacturers say to do and what we end up doing around here are generally two completely different things. :giggle:

I've been running distilled + Wetter + trace amounts of antifreeze (becausecalifornia) for a couple years now with no issue. If you are really worried about it, run the antifreeze in the proper ratios, add a bottle of whatever poison is your pleasure, and roll. Neither of those additives are going to hurt a turbo.

BlackBandit 04-22-2014 06:42 PM

It's speed related with the acceleration pedal being pressed.

It's super loud near the parcel shelf

Under load acceleration:

you can hear it good over the parcel shelf.

jimmyneutron 04-23-2014 06:36 AM

I had something similar happen. I thought it was the diff so I replaced the vsld with a torsen turned out my driveshaft bolts were a tad loose not diff related at all.
hope you figure it out :)

BlackBandit 04-23-2014 08:32 AM

I checked the bolts and they are tight. At least I can't make a difference tightening or loosening with my fingers.

How loose where your drive shaft bolts?

How I wanted to type this:

The nuts on the shaft are tight. How loose were your nuts? Lol

Video 2:

BlackBandit 04-23-2014 06:28 PM

The diff is on its way out. Gonna now install a 3.9 with a six speed this weekend.

UrbanSoot 04-24-2014 05:29 PM

I approve of this thread.

BlackBandit 04-27-2014 03:51 PM

Thanks urbansoot. This is your sale put to work.

Which company sells the best heat wrap to wrap my dp, radiator hoses, and power steering hoses? I also was thinking of cutting a hole and running air for the cowl to the back of the engine to reduce temps and or cut a hole in my hood.
I was contemplating a chaser aero hood but I don't want a carbon fiber hood.

Reason is that when I turn my ac on the engine temps crawl up past 220 degrees and up unless I turn it off.

Fireindc 04-27-2014 04:56 PM

In one of your earlier videos, i see there was no undertray. Have you fixed this? Because no undertray = overheating.

BlackBandit 04-27-2014 05:03 PM

There isn't because of clearance issues with the piping. Did anyone run into similar issues? And so could they show a picture of their under carriage

Tekel 04-27-2014 11:06 PM

Trim the tray if you have to. But not having a tray will really mess up air flow through your radiator.
