Hmm I'm gonna have to pick one up from esteban. Question: every time I put my ac on my temps rise up alot. Is the fan not strong enough or another reason why a tray might help

concealer404 04-29-2014 12:57 PM

Undertray or not (Yes, you need the undertray), there's no way your temps should be doing that with a good radiator, shroud, and those SPAL fans you said you installed earlier.

You sure the fans are running the right way? Do you have them both set to come on staggered?

BlackBandit 04-29-2014 01:01 PM

yes, the bigger fan is on the engine side the smaller on the ac side. I am working on getting a oem under tray unless I can pick up a beatrush skid plate. But I dont feel like cutting up metal to make it fit. I also have a small drip of coolant by my temp sensor for the temperature gauge. I ordered new oem hoses for now and plan on getting heat wrap or a heat insulator that a member mentioned.

concealer404 04-29-2014 01:02 PM

Your fans are different sizes? That's weird.

Make sure they're pulling and not pushing.

They are pushing towards the engine bay and pulling from the radiator

Fireindc 04-29-2014 01:05 PM

Yeah, sounds right. That's what he meant by pulling, same as the OEM setup.

Undertray + ducting and you will not have overheating issues :)

concealer404 04-29-2014 01:06 PM

Gerald, does it overheat at idle in the same scenario?

Gotcha. And I am going to get a tray from esteban the next time Im in orlando.

It doesn't over heat idling, just when the ac is on driving around. This happened in Orlando driving back home.

I did find a small drip leaking from the temp sensor for my temp gauge. Other then that I totally agree with you. I have a great cooling system and this strikes me odd.

concealer404 04-29-2014 01:31 PM

What i'm asking is if it overheats when at idle, sitting still, with the A/C on. :bowrofl:

If it's just while driving around, get an undertray on that bitch. Do that anyways. But if it's doing it while not moving with the a/c on, then you've got other issues.

BlackBandit 04-29-2014 01:33 PM

Okay I'll find out

Definitely ducting then, once the car is moving >30-40mph the fans arent doing anything and the car relies on air being pushed through the heat exchangers. If there is no ducting the air takes the path of least resistance and goes AROUND the exchangers instead of through them.

Edit: I also agree with concealer, if its overheating at idle than ducting won't do anything for you.

BlackBandit 04-29-2014 02:03 PM

It's 83 windy and cloudy here atm. It's not overheating sitting in my drive way running for 15 mins with the ac on. Be it may that the occurrence happened at high speeds of 70 mph when I experienced high temps under ac.

Temps stayed around 175

I have been experiencing several issues. One of which I am at the point where I parked the car for a week and will be there longer if I can not fix the problem. I am barely familiar with MS and I don't mess around in the program.

Problem one is my car shuts off either in a few different scenearios:

Cruising and coasting to a stop while out of gear
Cruising and coasting to a stop and downshift gears to a stop and it's out of gear for the last 10 felt or so

I sometimes can take it out of gear and it keeps the gears idle high enough to keep driving without using the acceleration pedal

Shuts off at a stop of the other symptoms do not effect the idle prior

I have several logs of each issue in all 3.

Custom undertray cutout. This side is much cleaner then the other side. Words of advice, use protective glasses when dremeling plastic. It can burn when it contacts your skin. Lol I put them on towards the end of the cutting and got some plastic under my eye and have a couple burns.

I tried searching but I didn't see a physical photo of the different gear ratio speed sensors. I am putting a 3.9 speed sensor in my 6speed msm for my 3.9 diff. This is the difference

The size difference in gears. The 3.9 is much smaller then the 4.1 and the color of the gear. The 3.9 is white while the msm is yellow. And to tell which gear is in your transmission, there is a color coordinated circle on the outside. The 4.1 is green. The 3.9 is blue.

I just purchased a mtuned coolant reroute. I will be also purchasing this itemize list after my wheels are paid for. I have redeemed one request at the beginning of the thread with my wheels and replaced them with the cr01 15x9+25 with 15mm spacers to fit under my flares.

BlackBandit 05-23-2014 11:11 AM

Just purchased my advanced heat resistant products mentioned up above minus the lava blanket.-

Spark plug boot covers, heat wrap for all the radiator hoses with heat resistant zip ties, Gold adhesive wrap for the transmission tunnel to reduce cabin temps and firewall drivers side, and heat wrap in 1" diameter for hoses and 2" X 50ft for downpipe and exhaust.

So this plus the reroute and under tray with spal fans equals dramatic engine temps dropping. I'm still considering a bonnet vent.

Also Jeff linfert will be fixing my dd issues.

EO2K 05-27-2014 06:58 PM

I'm confused... why sleeves for the plugwires? Those things are usually used in applications like domestic V8s where the plugwire is exposed to an exhaust primary.

Example:
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1401231527

It's not usually a concern with DOHC engines like ours where there is no direct exposure.

BlackBandit 05-27-2014 07:09 PM

My engine temps with the gauge were reading above 220 f. Before the spal fans and undertray, I thought it would be a good idea to cover the plug wires. I will be tracking the car so essentially it's an issue that might occur won't happen.

BlackBandit 06-02-2014 06:50 PM

Yes, but can you fit big brakes under these? 11", 11.75", so on. A lot of these wheels have tiny barrels and no matter the offset can't physically fit a big rotor + caliper.

BlackBandit 06-27-2014 02:11 PM

I dont know if they will fit. My assumption is that they would. And I do know FM has a kit to make BBK's fit.

BlackBandit 07-02-2014 04:18 PM

The car is back on the road. We fixed my deceleration problem. It would keep shutting off coming to a stop and or when I'm stopped and turn the ac on.

We changed a few things like dead time in the injectors, voltage, and made my own cruise control port become a vehicle speed sensor for the idle control valve. So when the cars speed hits 20 mph in a decel, the icv kicks in and says oh wait I need to turn on so I don't stall the car. And so there you have it.

I'm going to also continue to auto tune both my afr a couple times a week.

BlackBandit 07-28-2014 06:47 PM

Today I replaced the passenger side lower ball joint since the drivers side was replaced 3 years ago.

Also replaced both tie rods with bigger travel raybestos. The drivers side was torn.

BlackBandit 08-01-2014 01:46 PM

So this is what's up, I have low compression numbers and possible exhaust valves tweaked. I'm feeling mixed emotions right now and just need help.

I don't know where to start on a high HP turbo application turbo rebuild on the bp4w. I don't know what parts are over priced, quality, or to stay away from.

I also am mixed on parting the car out. Now I don't want anyone to make dibs but I am just depressed. I can't get the motor rebuild started until September which gives me time to buy parts and stock up for the build. I need someone in Florida to give me a quality job like bsi did to jeannes 10ae.

turbofan 08-01-2014 02:13 PM

You can't go wrong purchasing from one of our vendors. If I were you, I'd suggest contacting Fab9 tuning. Bryan has really turned up the wick on customer service, his prices are awesome, and he knows how to build a turbo miata. He'll get you absolutely everything you need for your engine build, all in one package.

You can get similar setups from other vendors, but in my research Fab9 pretty much kills it pricewise.

My 2 cents.

turbofan 08-01-2014 07:53 PM

Also: I don't know why you seem surprised that the motor is toast. We saw the dyno results and all of us said "better start gathering parts for an engine build because it's not going to live long at those power levels."

No reason to be depressed -- you knew it was coming. Not trying to be a dbag, it's gotta suck.

18psi 08-01-2014 08:16 PM

I posted in this very thread that you're on borrowed time, did you think that somehow you'll get lucky and be an exception?

See post 38.

On a positive note, the BP is one of the easiest engines to build, and compared to other cars its relatively cheap too.

I say build this thing and really turn it up

BlackBandit 08-01-2014 11:30 PM

Guys I knew it was going to happen. It's like a parent or grandparent going to die and not knowing when and being upset when it does happen. I am still upset and depressed about it. I already knew it was going to happen. I'm not surprised.

The car isn't toast. It just low compression numbers

As for the build I think I want to push 350hp close to 375hp. Build will probably begin I September after buying parts for a month.

18psi 08-02-2014 12:16 AM

375 is going to rock your world. its nuts

BlackBandit 08-02-2014 10:32 AM

Fyi numbers were 135-140

I am going to need to start ordering parts for the entire month of August for rebuild in September.

What are your suggestions on pistons, rods, valve springs etc? I am wanting to upgrade the oil pump, water pump etc as well.

curly 08-02-2014 10:37 AM

Is there any funny behavior? What compression gauge are you using? If it's 135-140 across the board, those are acceptable numbers from a shitty HF gauge.

BlackBandit 08-02-2014 11:16 AM

We are having a problems with the tunning. Here's the list

Afr is pig rich in idle. Won't come out of 10s unless we lean it out then it stalls.

Great vacuum when cold. Mediocre vacuum when warm to temp.

Fuel pressure constant 58kpa on gauge.

A lot of unburned fuel is coming out of the exhaust.
