I'll take the RS-3s off your hands. $20.

Dyno on Thursday went well. The new fuel pump was the ticket, went from going lean over 5.5k to very rich. We spent most of the hour pulling fuel.

This is where I want my Reverant MS3x+ enhanced to exist, so I can tell it what AFR target I want. Tuning with the Xede is not difficult, but it's a bit tedious and there's some guesswork involved. And it doesn't seem to really like loading new maps on the fly - for consistent results it's power off, power on, upload the new map, burn the map to eeprom, start the car.

I have somehow, in the midst of preparations for the first track day Monday, misplaced the dyno sheet so can't post it. 187whp / 157wtq were the numbers. I didn't mess with timing at all from what I had, pulling more in boost as rpm grows to 4deg from stock over 6k. We didn't pull to fuel cut, probably should have done one just to do it.

Wing is on. I can get the jack into the trunk if necessary, but not the helmet. So for now only the chair goes in the trunk. Trailer is hooked up, lights are tested, only thing left to do is put the numbers on and pack food.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ahahahahahaha Martin was deleted.

Imma just gonna drop this here...

At least you're racing though. I'll see you in the AM! Gopro with telemetry to follow...

Mobius 04-15-2013 10:07 PM

Mods: I require an explanation as to why a post was deleted from my thread. I happen to personally know the poster of the post in question. I await your response. This is mt fucking . net. We don't get our panties in a wad over trivial bullshit. You think a post is out of line in one of my threads and that I may find it offensive or insulting,, you give me the courtesy of checking with me before moderating it.

Edit: before moderating it in my name. If a post is out of bounds of the Terms of Service for the site you do what you need to do. That was not the case for the post in question, so gtfo.

Chilicharger665 04-15-2013 10:30 PM

The post said WOOT... and in very long form. That was it. It was spam from a noob with a low post count.

greddygalant 04-15-2013 11:47 PM

A. It was not spam
B. It was a celebratory woot because I was excited that Mobius had his car all together and ready for our trackday that happened today.
C. It was a long woot because I was excited to see that not only was the car running better but that it was also going to have it's beautiful new wing.
D. The moderators here seem to be bored and perhaps might need to go suck a Costco sized bag of dicks.
E. A comment such as D might be grounds for having it deleted/banning me. the celebratory woot in the thread of a friend, I think not.
F. Had a great time driving with Mobius today, had some good battles out on the track and his car look AMAZING with the wing on.
G. that is all.

oregonmon 04-16-2013 12:07 AM

Woooooot! Martin!

Sploinkin 04-16-2013 11:29 AM

PDX newbs unite! You still need to sell me your hardtop Mobius.

Track day was awesome. Lowered my best time for PIR from a 1.42 to 1.34.12. Spec Miata record is a 1.31.3 so I have a ways to go there.

Peak G was 1.36. Peak sustained G's are in the 1.24 range. I ran both the 205 Rivals on the 8's (morning session, cold) and the RS3's on 9's for the other three sessions. The Rivals made more noise than the RS3's, and I averaged about .2G less on them. But they were run in the coldest session, first track day of the year, and I didn't want to make too much noise with them because we get fingers wagged at us if we appear to be overdriving - the HPDE organizers want 9.5/10ths at most. In raw lap time comparisons the Rivals were about 3 seconds slower. For a smaller tire on a smaller wheel I think they did very well.

The car was extremely stable at all speeds and I could really tell that the rear was planted in the one high speed ess (T10/T11). Super pleased.

Alright, one and final warning for everyone.

Yes, there are a few newbs with low posts. I'll keep them in line, but they're all friends of ours in the Portland area. They all have quick miata track cars. They're just used to CR, give them a chance, I pointed them this way to see what all the track rats are doing over here.

And lol@thunderdome.

P.S. Ironically, I got the reported post emails while at the track with all of them.

greddygalant 04-16-2013 09:12 PM

That is ironic, very ironic. Anyways, Mobius, terrific job on the car, had fun battling with you when I was out there in both cars, hopefully next time the galant will be in fighting form and we can have some more high speed battles.

Mobius 04-16-2013 11:48 PM

Yes it was a good time. The Galant is surprisingly fast

tomiboy 04-17-2013 01:05 PM

Are we talking a Mitsubishi Galant?

curly 04-17-2013 06:44 PM

Yup. I'll let Martin (greddygalant) jump in with the full spec sheet, but he's spent entirely too much on that barge of a car. It is indeed fast.

Martin: a little hint: These guys really like a dyno sheet. Post numbers without one and I may give you a warning.

greddygalant 04-18-2013 04:33 PM

haha, barge smarge, my galant weighs only about 150 pounds more than Mobius's NB, I won't clutter this thread with info on it.

Mobius 05-03-2013 12:43 AM

Had a great drive through the hills of NW Portland today.

Then the car died. Immediately before dying, it had lost power. Like, allofit. I pulled over and parked, as I had reached my destination. Then it wouldn't start. It would crank and sputter, but not start. Called for a tow truck.

During the wait I poked around and checked obvious stuff, didn't see anything wrong. Couplings all coupled, wires all attached, none obviously the victim of horrid melting or abrading incidents, etc. After about 45 minutes it started but sounded terrible.

Martin of Galant fame was able to drop by and assist with diag. The truck brought it back to the house and we commenced work. During all of this I got two codes for the MAF from the ecu (po102 and po103; low and high voltage respectively) as well as po300 (random cylinder misfires, would result from bad maf signals) and an odd po480 which is a complaint about cooling fan #1, which is running fine and turning on and off appropriately.

Martin and I are pretty sure that the MAF has actually gone bad. I have extended the MAF connector harness so it would reach where it needs to be with the rotrex install; we stripped all the covering off it it back to where it rejoins the original wrapped harness and it all looks good. The car runs, but poorly, and sounds terrible. Normally at idle my AF gauge fluctuates between 14.1 - 15.5 or so; at the moment it's much less consistent and bounces between say 12ish and 17ish. Plugs all look pretty black, but equally black, and all gapped at .030.

The MAF possibly slowly dying recently would explain several things, like why my tune seems somewhat unstable.

But on the good news front, we did a compression check.
#1 180
#2 180
#3 180
#4 180

That's a 130k mile engine that has been boosted for about 10k miles. And driven flatout.

curly 05-03-2013 03:08 AM

Hope it's not a coolant sensor. That would explain the starting after 45 minutes. It's be a lot cheaper too. I've heard of them failing. Haven't heard of any mafs failing. See if it runs fine in the morning, it's an easy way to prove me wrong.

Mobius 05-03-2013 06:15 PM

Doesn't run fine. Still borken. Swapping MAF's had no effect. My scangauge is reporting coolant temps which appear accurate, so I don't think it's the coolant sensor. Unless there are two. The car starts, sounds sort of like a subaru, runs poorly, and I can floor it and watch the tach slowly climb.

I have only 12in HG vacuum when I used to have 22in HG vacuum. This is a problem ... I have applied suction and was not able to find the leak via ear. I have applied pressure, and used soapy water, and have not seen a leak anywhere on the tb gasket, IM gasket, or miscellaneous hoses.

Since the compression test was good, I am assuming the valves are ok and seating properly. Something mechanical somewhere is causing my vacuum leak. Maybe egr valve?
