Its not new and its not clean, but its in great shape and completely serviceable. It needs a little degreasing inside and out plus a few fins need straightening, but nothing that cannot be overcome. Now to figure out how to mount it.

 

So much intercooler. My buddy had one for his 240 definitely a quality piece, but very very thick.

 

+1 to that, its seriously massive.

All I've ever really played with in the past is OEM or el cheapo aftermarket units. OEMs are always high quality but grossly undersized and the mounting/packaging restrictions usually make them difficult to adapt. This Precision is ridiculously high quality, as good if not better than the OEMs I've seen. I have access to a BEGI #2 or #3, I'll have to see if I can get comparison pics of the internals and the core itself.

Hmm, it has mounts for an NA. Sounds like a LOT of work to mount to an NB.

If only you knew someone with an NA...

I do like the vent window, I need to look into a pair of those.

 

Got 'em on my NB. It's amazing how much air they pull in (and you can "adjust" the airflow up or down by rotating them). Did a trip from ATL to DTW and back for the 4th in a non-AC Miata and wasn't stressed by the heat - it must be true 'cause my wife didn't complain once!

Because I'm looking at the pop-out ones. If that's the case, that's exactly what I wanted to hear My only concern is rain. Have you had them in the rain yet?

 

Yep, I have the pop-outs. And yes, I've had 'em in the rain. Just turn the opening towards the rear and, voila! you're good to go. Or, you can turn the opening downwards and you can still get a fair amount of airflow with only an errant drop or two of windblown water.

So far, I love them.

My only worry is that eventually, the opening will open up enough through wear that the pop outs will "weep". But for the price, I'll just "do it again".

 

No problems with rain or washing yet. If it does start to leak it'll be easy to put a thin piece of an old MTB bike tube around the lip to prevent it.

 

I installed the Advance Autosports version about a month ago. I've driven in, and the car has sat in, end-of-the-world type rainstorms twice with no leaks. I've also hosed them down pretty good while washing the car and was only able to get a few droplets to leak in. They seal up much better than I was expecting. You can also rotate them down and pop them open when it's raining for some airflow. Great product.

The install is a little fiddly, but there is a decent write-up around here somewhere. FYI, You do NOT need to remove the main windows. Keep the updates rolling, I'm enjoying your build.

That's exactly what I was thinking, I just couldn't figure out how much lip there was to work with on the pop out.

Time to order a set of these things so I can get some decent airflow into the car.

 

These vents are fantastic technology. I was not aware of them. Off to research!

pop out vents are quick and easy for sure, the NACA ducts look a little more the business though. Plus I had the left over lexan from my hardtop window project. So I think total it cost me $30 shipped for the two ducts.

Its cool, I appreciate the feedback none the less. Its not like things are barreling forward at a breakneck pace anyway.

 

Also late to the party. The pop out window vents are one of my favorite things i've done to this car. They provide an awesome amount of air when open and as stated you can rotate them to adjust the amount of air coming in.

I have no issues with rain and water when washing the car. You will love them. If you're having problems with the install of the rubber gasket, dish soap and water works great as a lubricant that won't stick around and cause issues later.

 

So while building my car for the past 6 months I've started a bad habit of leaving the keys in the car(garaged) while working on tuning and what not. Well Yesterday, the habit reared its ugly head and I locked them in my car at Costco. To make a short story shorter, it is very easy to pop the scoop out and painfully(quite painfully) shove your forearm through the cut-out and reach the lock. Sliced my forearm pretty good trying to get my finger tips on the switch but it is possible for a determined thief.

Just a heads up for those in less secure areas(my Miata is living in St. George, in the garage, till I find a place with a garage in Cedar City).

 

Miatas are incredibly easy to break into regardless of having that vent. Took me 5 minutes with a wire hanger.
