I thought you increased your timing some since the last time we talked about it.

It still looks too low to me. Maybe safe for most of the motor, but from the exhaust valves to the down pipe, probably not so much.

He was ~18 and only marginally literate. Somebody had to do it.

From now on, I will have better quality videos. My editing software had an incorrect setting and my videos were all far away looking.

I cut a right front tire in this video.

I know you are much faster than I am but I have just one critique from the laps I see. I feel like you are turning in a little too early on turn 7. You seem like you could go in hotter and brake into that zone a little deeper and then you would have a straighter shot coming out of it on the back side. I could be wrong...

Nice driving. Refreshing to see full use of the track. I miss Sebring- it only lacks hills. ;) I think the majority of Sebring's turns encourage early turn-ins only to burn the driver at track out. I am all too familiar with running off the track at the exit of at least half the turns there. T17 was the biggest (full course) thrill for me. I would stay on the throttle through the first apex into 17, effectively extending the straight, then go into a massive late brake, transitioning into some serious trail brake/steer and on throttle. High pucker factor, but forced me to maximize my speed through the turn for a great entry speed onto the front straight. There's a big benefit to extending the longest straight on a race track- especially Sebring's.

Pic is from the garage at Homestead-Miami Speedway before the addition of the 6ULs.

Next track days are Road Atlanta Sept 13-15 and Sebring Oct 4-5.

Looks good; I was hoping for Sebring or Roebling in the fall, but both are the same weekend... Which happens to be the weekend I have a non-car event booked that cannot be changed or skipped.

sixshooter 09-03-2013 02:48 PM

I may end up doing another event somewhere before the year is out.

Steve,

Are you at Road Atl for HPDE this weekend?

Yes, sir. I am.

I just completed the NASA instructor's clinic today.

In for vids!

First video is up.

I was only running 7-8 psi this weekend and was on really old RA1s. I haven't got enough familiarity with the track or confidence in certain aspects of the car to go higher boost there yet. I need to tune the driver to the track before turning the car up.

Gryff 09-17-2013 10:39 AM

what was that at 10:24 ish? it looks like an older daytona prototype??

miata2fast 09-17-2013 11:19 AM

Your driving is looking great Steve. Looks like so much fun.

Seefo 09-17-2013 11:30 AM

Looking good steve. Much calmer, much smoother driving than a lot of the stuff I have seen lately.

sixshooter 09-17-2013 11:31 AM

It looked like one but I'm not sure. He should have been faster if it was.

I was trying to keep the steering steady even when the tires were chattering in and out of adhesion. The car felt pretty balanced even with the outside tires on the edge of giving up. It feels recoverable if there's room.

It turns out there is a Roebling event the one weekend I have free in October, so I signed up for it (PCA event on the 20th).

Nothing like a hard deadline to force me to dust off the car and get it ready. I'll probably need to get some tires as mine have some borderline flatspots from a few spins the last time out.

Practically, speaking, I should probably order a spare set of wheels with some "commuter" tires to drive to and from and use the 6ULs and what's left of the XSes as track tires. The daises I had for backups won't fit over the TSE Big Boy Pants Brake Kit.
